What a fab article by my lovely man   We will never know what sort of snide remarks or digs gay men have to put up with :( It must be so tiring :(

That programme on channel 4 this week has been an eye opener for me

Will this article be in the actual newspaper or is it just online?

Thanks for posting hun :D

It's in the paper F/G, little pic of him on the front page :)

Excellent article and it's great to hear his view on things. What an articulate young man he is

Looks like the Sun's been reading the OS.

in the suns bizbites today a short snipet saying how being a star does not make you imune to the floods and says will came home to find his utensils floating around his kitchen. it goes on to say on a good note his new album is going swimmingly.

I bet they got that info from the os

Thanks to miniwillfansmum.

There is an article in TimesOnline written by Will. Very enlightening. And what an amazingly well written piece it is.

Times Online

Thanks Pearl and I agree with you, it's a well written piece and although attitudes are changing like Will says, a lot of work still needs to be done on a lot of issues, it must really irk him to be called "gay pop idol Will Young" or "gay singer Will Young" all the time as well, I know it bloody annoys me, I'm pleased he mentioned the other countries like Zimbabwe and the Arab world that are really frightening and also Jamaica is notoriously violent towards its gay people.

Thanks Pearl. Very interesting, and well-written article. I particularly was interested in this bit, especially as it's something we've been saying for years.

I am still often referred to as the “gay pop idol – Will Young” (very much in that order of importance); yet in other countries the gay word doesn’t come into it – someone’s sexuality is regarded rightly as a being an irrelevance or unnoteworthy.

The times I and others have screamed "Why can't the media just refer to him as singer Will Young" or if they really must have it then "Pop Idol Will Young". But why of why do they have preface his name with the word "gay". He's a singer, what the hell has his sexuality got to do with it, and why does it matter? The media wouldn't say "the straight singer Joe Bloggs", so why say "gay singer (Pop Idol) Will Young". Or refer to "gay anyone else" for that matter. As time goes on there are less of the press who use the appellation "gay" when referring to Will, but there are still some homophobic cruds out there who think they're being clever. For their information they're not - they're just showing up their ignorance.

It seems quite obvious they have been reading OS, or at least some site where the update's been printed. About his album they've even used the same phrase - wonder whether the OS can get the Sun for plagiarism.

The Times artical is fantastic..really interesting and well thought out..he's such a sarmt man our man.

i agree with him too..i have said this often as we all have.

The next stage is trickier. It’s how to make people understand that gays are utterly normal; it’s how to change outlooks so that it never crosses people’s minds that to be gay is to be so different or alien; or to stare if two men hold hands, or to do a double take if a man says “meet my husband”; it’s how to be able to be honest about yourself without people accusing you of “ramming your homosexuality down my throat”. Hop over to the Netherlands and sexuality is not such an issue; but here in Britain things are different. I am still often referred to as the “gay pop idol – Will Young” (very much in that order of importance); yet in other countries the gay word doesn’t come into it – someone’s sexuality is regarded rightly as a being an irrelevance or unnoteworthy.

what a man  ..it really is no wonder that i love him so much.
