I so hope the 'critics' who find out about Will's gig don't go down the 'Ronnie's sold out to pop' line  . For me, Will has always been a jazz singer - since hearing his big band no. on Pop Idol.

Thanks TT. They are very introvert as a genre and really do not like mixing. Wil's music is very eclectic, drawing on all genres . If the place hadn't been rescued it would just have disappeared. What's the point of living on yesteryear - it don't pay the bills. As you say there aren't any more big jazz names left alive to draw in the punters. Bet they haven't had tickets go so fast for quite some time  As the fella from the club said they could have filled the place for a month with the amount of requests they got.

Well he would have been a jazz singer if he had gone to his audition on the right day!

I think everything happens for a reason and I'm so glad his friend told him about PI. :D

I hope if there are any critics there, that they recognise this gig for what it really is. An indulgence for Will, an ambition to sing jazz and swing with a jazz band in a famous jazz venue. The fact that the tickets were offered to Will's fans makes it clear that there isn't any intention of trying to convert Ronnie Scott's regulars to his supporters but to perform a different genre of music for his own fans to enjoy.

That said, our press and critics would be much to thick and pig ignorant to realise that though.

I was thinking the same thing - his favourite spot - right in front of the bar

The bar wasn't open when I went as I only went to one matinee. Thanks for the picture, now I know what it looks like.

Found this on a Radio forum Some one had posted about how they thought the Proms in the park was to pop

I've also been going to proms in the Park for years and I absolutely loved it this year. I can't understand why you are complaining, given that there is always a 'pop' act at the end (last year it was Lionel Richie, who ran over time). We can't all like everybody. I didn't much go for Ryandan, but Lesley Garret was great as usual, and I thought Will Young was amazing, really made me realize what a great singer he is.

:D

Thanks TT - just seen this posted omn Devoted by Julie(Will 4 me)

Yet another possible project from William!

Martyn Swain, an award winning score composer and songwriter, comes from a ‘rock ‘n roll’ background having joined The Waterboys back in 1987 and went on to work with major superstars, including David Bowie. Credits include ‘Reichenbach Falls’, ‘Auf Wiedersehen Pet’, ‘The Rotters Club’, ‘Belonging’ and more…

He studied composition and orchestration at London’s Guildhall School of Music and only started scoring fulltime for film and tv in 2002, since which time he has already achieved an impressive list of credits. These Include Belonging, starring Brenda Blethyn, directed by Chris Menaul, for which he won the FIPA D’OR for Best Original Score, and he was awarded EMMYS for Allied To The Mafia and The True Story Of The Roman Arena for the BBC’s Timewatch series. 2007 scores include the BBC’s Reichenbach Falls.

His other credits include the feature Inspiration, produced by Alan Rickman; the 2005 series of Auf Wiedersehen Pet (BBC), for which he provided a largely Afro Cuban score; The Rotters’ Club series (Company Pictures/BBC); In Search Of Lawrence (Fulcrum/Channel 4); and Pyramid (BBC). He was second composer, contributing music to Cracker series I (Granada); Catherine Cookson’s The Gambling Man (ITV); Century Falls and Moon Dial (BBC). His documentaries series cover everything from the National Geographic, Lonely Planet, Horizon, The Mission, and Storm Chasers to Undressed and Planet Food. Last year two of his library pieces were used in Little Britain.

Originally a bass guitarist and backing vocalist, he gained worldwide touring, recording and tv experience with World Party, Julian Lennon, the afore mentioned David Bowie, Toni Childs, Aimee Mann, Sinead O’Connor, Holly Johnson and many others. He quickly developed as a songwriter and wrote with, and for, Robert Plant, Aimee Mann, Toni Childs and Julian Lennon with whom he is currently completing an album project as songwriter, co-producer and musician.

The collaboration with Julian Lennon has carried over into a new recording project led by Martyn which will also feature contributions from David Gray and Will Young. Watch this space!

Don't know whether this is up to date, but it mentions music scores of 2007 ...... interesting

Martyn works from his own digital sound to picture studio in central London. He is a member of British Academy of Composers and Songwriters and last year was on the BAFTA panel judging Best Original TV Music.

I then did a bit of searching mself and found this taken from his MySpace:

Quote:

Sessions as a Producer, Songwriter and Musician have followed with Julian Lennon, the results of which will be seen later this year with the release of a new album, and the collaboration continued into a startlingly original project led by Martyn, which will include contributions from Julian, David Gray, Aimee Mann and Will Young amongst others. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------As an acknowledgement of his progress in the field of TV music, Martyn was last year invited onto the BAFTA panel of Judges for ‘Best Original Music’, and is also a valuable member of the Media Executive of the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------At 42, Martyn’s immense enthusiasm for music remains undiminished and he sees his best years looming ahead of him. With a wealth of experience and a personal contact list including most of the best musicians in Britain, who could doubt him!

So just it seems Will has been a very busy boy even when we thought he was having time off!

Can't wait for all his projects to materialise. :yahoo:

You beat me to it munchkin. Thanks for bringing it across.

Here's us thinking Will's having some down time. He never seems to stop. Wonder what else he's been up to that we don't know about. I think there could be some acting work in the pipeline too.

Anyone else get the impression with Will, that he much prefers working with talented and creative people, even if it's on small scale projects, than going the usual pop star World dominating route ?

I think he is happy and fulfilled in his work at the moment, with an ambition like playing Ronnie Scotts being an example of what pleases him the most.

As for his acting, I think he's had to put the album first since the Vortex ended, probably Ged's visit on the last night reminded him of the small matter of a recording contract to honour ;) so whether there'll be time to fit something in before the release of album 4 and the promo that will follow, who knows? He'll have to get in pretty quick if it's going to happen :D

Yep. I read this the other day on his other project for 1 Giant Leap (Jamie Catto) - album to be called What About Me?:

...about a new CD or a movie.

Where's some bone tossed to the hungry masses?

This was posted back in April - to give a taste of what is to come:

Ron Hudson Ok, first off...I have seen 7 chapters only, so I can't say what is coming after that. In the first 7 chapters, the editing style and beauty of the filming and music and interviews are very much like what you are familiar with. However, this film is also very much different than 1GL. There is a grittier edge to its content. It makes you think about things that are not so warm and fuzzy as the first film. My first reaction was "hmmm..." (Well, after seeing how freaked out I looked in my interview!) After multiple viewings, I am saying "yes, absolutely..."

Many of the interviews deal with personal struggles in the lives of individuals, tied in with music that emphasizes a theme. Some of the struggles are larger issues of society. I have seen the topics Grace, Shadow, Love, Sex, Desire, Pain and Bombardment. It really does leave me thinking, "So, what about me?" "Where do I fit into this?" After having seen the film's first 7 chapters, I can see where the title would come from. I can understand, though, Paul, your concern about a title that doesn't jump up and grab you by the brain or throat or hand...It is in retrospective of having watched the film that it makes sense.

I recognize many of the people I see in these chapters, but there are many people who are new to me. Nonetheless, there are lessons here that we can all take away...and I find myself wondering who the beautiful elderly lady who smiles lovingly while saying "[Her kiss on my cheek] makes me violent." I want to know the man with the lap organ who sings in deep resonant voice one of the most beautiful dirges I have ever heard. I want to hang out with most of the people in the film, although there are some who really p*** me off. I want to know the Mexican guy who talks about marketing...about the Mexican lady with the deep, raspy voice. I want to know and hug the elderly people in this film who are talking about growing old because I have more in common with them than I do with most people my own age. You get the drift....

[This is hard to do without specific questions to answer. Know that the musical base that Dunc set up is spectacular and the contributions of people like kd lang, Carlos Santana, Ulali, the Mahotella Queens, Franti and friends, Daniel Lanois, Eddi Reader, Will Young, Zap Mama, some rocking Japanese chanteuses and African divas and those beautiful people that we have seen or never met before...all of that is a loving symphony of sound that will be unforgettable to us all. 7/4/2
