Sunday Times Travel Magazine (August); this was in last weeks paper, with thanks to Bev.

The pop idol talks passionate primates, cheeky taxi drivers and leotard-wearing cooks

We hear you have a big fan in Cameroon?

Yes! I spent time at a gorilla orphanage there as part of the BBC Saving Planet Earth series. One of the gorillas took a bit of a shine to me. She kept making this noise that apparently meant she fancied me. It didn’t go down too well with the males. One gave me this look out of the corner of his eye, and then suddenly he flung a huge rock against the fence right in front of my face.

You also tracked wild gorillas. How did you cope with jungle trekking?

The sweat bees were the worst part – they-re bees attracted by the salt in perspiration. Gorillas are hard to track, so you have to be really quiet: easier said than done when you’ve got 20 huge bees swarming around you. The director and I were the sweatiest in the group, so we got the worst of it. I was also a bit nervous about elephants charging us while we trekked. I walked in the middle of our group, and all I could think was that animals always attack the one in the middle…

Sounds scary.

Not as scary as the lodge we stayed in. It was run by a French couple, and our hostess cooked fantastic food for us while wearing a leotard like the one Maddona wears in the ‘Hung Up’ video.

Where do you go to relax?

After my recent stint at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester, I went to Vegas. It’s fairly hideous, but doesn’t pretend to be anything else. You can’t beat Marrakech, though. It’s got everything: mountains, souks and gorgeous little riads. My favourite is La Villa des Orangers, near Djemma El Fna square.

What was living in Manchester like?

The Northern Quarter is a great place to go out. There’s a brilliant little jazz bar called Matt & Phred’s – I played there one night, actually.

Randy gorillas aside, have you fallen victim to any other holiday mishaps?

I went to Nairobi when I was a student, and left my travelling belt – with all my money and my passport – in a taxi. It was about midnight, but I followed the driver into the township. I’d never do that now. I went to his house, but he wasn’t in. Luckily he brought it back to my hotel. He’d nicked most of the money, but then asked for the rest!

Where’s next on the list?

I’d love to see India, but I want to get a feel for the place. So I’m going to stay a long time….

Thanks Suggy - I think this is hilarious - he didn't mention the rock throwing in his other interviews did he. Even male gorillas can't stand him getting female attention

He must have given off a pretty powerful scent for the males to get jealous - don't some of our girls know the feeling

Gorilla's Rock hit with Will

A jealous gorilla hurled a rock at Will Young - because its girlfriend had a crush on the singer.

Will, 28 was visiting a gorilla orphanage in Cameroon for the BBC Saving Planet Earth series.

He said, "One of the gorillas kept making this noise that meant she fancied me. It didn't go down too well with the males. One gave me this look out the corner of his eye and flung a huge rock against the fence right in front of my face".

I've just read on Devoted that a question was asked in a quiz this morning about Will,

on Heart 106(Notts) this morning......which Heart artist made a male gorilla 'evergreen' when the female fancied him?

The lady gave the correct answer too.

thanks to Diane.
