Posted June 30, 200718 yr A day after a terror attack was 'foiled' in London, a blazing car was driven into Terminal One. Eyewitness reports claim two asian men ran from the car and attempted to stop police reaching the car before an explosion blew them from the vicinity, one of which was allegedly badly burned, and both were arrested. ----- http://static.sky.com/images/pictures/1553903.jpg Two people are being held after a burning Jeep was rammed through the terminal building at Glasgow airport. Gordon Brown is to chair a COBRA emergency meeting this evening in response to the terror strike, which came after two car bombs were found in London. The jeep on fireHolidaymakers reported hearing a series of loud "bangs" and saw two men - one of whom was on fire - emerge from the vehicle. The man on fire was knocked down by a member of the public before he was arrested by police. There are reports of several injuries. The man on fire was taken to Royal Alexandra Hospital in Glasgow. His accomplice is at nearby Govan police station. It came as Scotland's third Parliament was formally inaugurated by the Queen. The foiled bomb attacks in London came a day after Gordon Brown was made PM. Airports in the US are on high alert following the attack. The Jeep Cherokee was being driven at around 30mph when it smashed into a glass door at Terminal One of the airport, the busiest in Scotland. Hundreds of shocked holidaymakers were in the area at the time, and witnesses said some of them removed gas cylinders from the jeep before it caught fire. There are reports the occupants - described as Asian males - were trying to pour petrol on the flames. Scott Gleeson said he saw the jeep speed up and swerve towards the terminal at an angle to hit the door. "They were obviously trying to get through to cause as much damage as possible," he said. There was chaos at the sceneHolidaymaker Stephen Clarkson said he knocked one of the men to the floor before police intervened. He said: "There was an Asian male. He was lying on the floor and he was on fire, the Jeep was on fire as well. "The fellow got up and started fighting with police. I managed to knock the Asian fellow to the ground and four police officers got on top of him." He added: "His whole body was on fire. He was quite a big fellow and was disorientated otherwise I wouldn't have been able to knock him down." James Edgar told Sky News: "There was a lot of anger - if the crowds had got hold of this gentleman it would have been the end of him." The airport has been closed and holidaymakers are being sheltered at nearby buildings. http://news.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30100-1273090,00.html What does this mean for the UK? Is there a link to the fact that the new PM is Scottish, and the Queen is in Edinburgh today? Does this make you less likely to use air travel? Edited June 30, 200718 yr by Andrewy
June 30, 200718 yr Won't make any difference to me, I believe in fate, when its your time its your time I still use buses and tubes post 7/7 and have not altered my routine one bit nor will I hesitate to use a plane if the need arises People change their routines then the terrorists have won. Bugger that
June 30, 200718 yr Author I'm glad you said that  Newcastle (down the road from me) and Edinburgh (where I'm flying from in August) are both on high alert, but I'm absolutely still going to use them Edit: Edinburgh has reportedly been closed ... I'm still going  ... once it's open anyway. Edited June 30, 200718 yr by Mark.

Yeah don't change your plans ^_^ That is what terrorists want, they want to cause fear and panic as much if not more so than death tolls so the best way to stick 2 fingers up to them is to carry on life as normal and change nothing ^_^

Bugger that still hold the ridiculous notion that its a security forces set up?.... pmsl. no andrew, i dont think most of us will change our travel habits, we will not be intimidated.
June 30, 200718 yr Author I wonder how many people think like we do, though ... I hope it's the majority. I don't want the whole tourist industry to suffer because we're too scared to fly out, and others are too scared to fly in.

Hindsight is a great thing, on the available evidence I had yesterday, incompetent planning and bungled execution it seemed a reasonable theory, obviously circumstances today have damaged such a theory but none of us could have forseen today's events

I don't want the whole tourist industry to suffer because we're too scared to fly out, and others are too scared to fly in. I think I read that the aviation industry was hit by about a 10% fall in passenger numbers through cancellations immediately after 9/11 so 90% of people still travelled but I have no figures regarding anything since that
