Chartifacts

(Thanks to Gavin Ryan)

Rihanna remains at the top of the Australian singles charts for a fifth

week, but she will most likely only last there for another two weeks, as

Fergie's new single "Big Girls Don't Cry" takes over the No.1 spot on the

Download charts, and it's physical release is July 7th, making it chart eligible

as of week commencing July 16th. Although this week Christina's "Candyman" jumps

back up to No.2 for a fourth non-consecutive week, and she's here in Australia

for a national tour from July 14th, it could push the candy to the top of the

charts a week before Fergie, plus her "Back to Basics" album is being

tour-re-packaged, out on July 7th.

NEW PEAKS: Several songs move up the charts this week to claim new highest

peak positions. The last two weeks' biggest climber "Destination Calabria"

climbs one place from 5 to No.4 this week, as also pulls "Thnks fr th Mmrs" up

one from 6 to No.5. Sneaky Sound System have this week knocked on the door of

the Top 10 at No.11 with "UFO", there highest placed single ever, maybe next

week it'll become their first Top 10'er. "The Creeps" has been for the past five

weeks has gone 19-19-18-20-18, and this week breaks from that cycle by jumping

up to No.15, whilst former Birmingham UK resident, now an Aussie, Amy Pearson

moves up to No.22 from 28 after 4 weeks of charting.

BIGGEST CLIMBER: There's nothing like a promo tour to help your music sales,

and this week Michael Buble's current releases jump massive amounts up the

charts. The latest single "Everything: peaked at No.26 in it's second week on

the charts (14th May), and when the album came out a week later, people bought

the album and not the single, where it quickly sank to No.41 for several weeks.

This week "Everything" jumps 21 places on the chart from 40 to No.19 thanks to

Michael's thorough promotional tour of Australia, and it also put's his album

back at the top of the charts. More on that below in the albums section.

NEW ENTRIES: Three new entries to the Australian charts this week, the first

of which debuts at No.9, "4 in the Morning" by Gwen Stefani. This is the third

single from her second solo album "The Sweetest Escape" (No.27 this week),

having had "Wind it Up" (No.4, Jan. 2007) and "The Sweet Escape" (No.2, Feb.

2007, No.27 this week) as the previous two. It now becomes Gwen's 9th chart

appearance, and 8th solo single (she guested with Pharrell in Nov. 2005), and

with this song debuting in the Top 10, it gives her a 7th Top 10 single and the

below listing show's her full Australian chart credentials.

Entry Date Gwen Stefani (WA) HP WI

15-Nov-04 1 WHAT YOU WAITING FOR? (2) 1 15

28-Feb-05 2 feat Eve - RICH GIRL 2 13

30-May-05 3 HOLLABACK GIRL (1) 1 12

5-Sep-05 4 COOL 10 10

21-Nov-05 5 Pharrell feat. - CAN I HAVE IT LIKE THAT? 22 12

12-Dec-05 6 LUXURIOUS 25 8

11-Dec-06 7 WIND IT UP 5 19

26-Feb-07 8 feat Akon - THE SWEET ESCAPE (6) 2 19*

* still charting

The debut single for former George vocalist Katie Noonan debuts at No.30

this week, "Time to Begin". It's the lead single from her first solo album

called "Skin" which is due for release August 11th. For the record, her last

appearance with George on our charts was back in November 2003 when the song

"Still Real" reached No.37.

The third and final new entry to the Top 50 this week is the fourth chart

entry for Mario (Mario Bennett). "How Do I Breathe" is the lead single from his

third album "Go" which is released here on July 23rd, whilst his previous chart

entries here were "Let Me Love You" (No.3, Feb. 2005), "Here I Go Again" (No.15,

July 2005) and "How Could You" (No.43, Oct. 2005).

Michael Buble's "Call Me Irresponsible" jumps back to the top of the

Australian Album charts this week (up from No.6), now accumulating it's third

week at the top of the charts (two weeks initially when it debuted 14th May). As

I mentioned above in the singles section, his lead track from the album

"Everything" is the biggest climber of the week, and the promo tour has also

helped his previous album "It's Time" to jump from 49 to No.29.

The last time that a Male Solo album rebounded to the top of the charts was

back in April 2006 when "Back to Bedlam" by James Blunt went back for it's 10th

to 12th weeks at the top of the charts, but the last album to go back to the top

was only a month ago (June 4th) when Pink's "I'm Not Dead" went back for a

second week at No.1.

Last week I mentioned how far the White Stripes previous albums had fallen

after their initial debut and peak. Well this week they do fall, but not quite

as hard as I previously mentioned, with "Icky Thump" only moving down three

places to No.6.

Fergie's album "The Duchess" originally reached No.10 last October in it's

second week on the charts. Now in it's 21st week in the Top 50 (40th week in the

Top 100), it reaches a new peak of No.9, thanks in part to it now having three

Top 5 singles, and a new single "Big Girls Don't Cry" now sitting at No.1 on the

Download Charts.

NEW ENTRIES: Kelly Clarkson's third album "My December" is the highest new

entry this week, coming in at No.4. Her previous two albums were "Thankful"

(No.33, Oct. 2003) and "Breakaway" (No.2, July 2005), whilst "Breakaway" charted

for 73 weeks in the Top 50 and reached it's peak of No.2 on five separate

occasions. The lead single off this new album is "Never Again" which has been in

the Top 10 for all of it's five weeks on the charts, and climbs one to No.6 this

week.

Australian act Airbourne get their debut album and chart entry at No.21 this

week with the album "Runnin' Wild", whilst another rocker Ryan Adams makes his

first appearance on the charts in 2 years at No.32 with "Easy Tiger". His last

album "Cold Roses" debuted and peaked at No.31 on May 16th, 2005.

Great that Candyman has rose again, be great to see that get #1 there.
Is there anywhere Brolly hasn't topped the chart yet? :o
Good to see Gwen top 10! Surprised Kelly only entered at No.4 considering how successful Breakaway was over there
