Diana performers reap singles boost

03 July 2007 - 11:15:33

Source Music Week

The Diana Tribute Concert looks set to influence the singles chart this week, sparking renewed interest in Lily Allen’s Smile and LDN (Regal), and Supertramp’s Breakfast In America (A&M).

Following a performance by Supertramp’s Roger Hodgson at Sunday’s event, the band has re-entered the chart for the first time in more than 20 years. And Lily Allen looks set to achieve two Top 50 re-entries.

Take That’s Patience (Polydor) will also re-enter the Top 75 following the group’s performance at the concert. The single has already climbed more than 50 places to 47.

But Rihanna feat. Jay-Z is still holding fast at the top of the Singles chart today with Umbrella (Def Jam), after seven weeks.

It looks likely to leave Kate Nash trailing in second place with Foundations (Fiction).

Overall the Top 20 will remain pretty static this week, though Avril Lavigne looks likely to creep into the Top 5, climbing 13 places to number 4 with When You’re Gone (RCA).

Meanwhile in the album chart, The Chemical Brothers’ We Are The Night (Virgin) and Velvet Revolver’s Libertad (RAD) will be fighting it out for the top spot. There are currently less than 1,000 sales between the two new entries.

Crowded House’s Time On Earth (Parlophone) also looks set to debut in the Top 5 this week.

Other new Top 30 entries look likely to include Ash’s Twilight Of The Innocents (Infectious), Robin Thicke’s The Evolution Of… (Interscope) and Rod Stewart’s Complete American Songbooks 1-4 (J).
