July 5, 200718 yr Author 22nd: Pussycat Dolls: 50 Points. Voted for by Unfaithful Jack, Suus 73, Davidobowie, and Kieran; highest position 2nd (Unfaithful Jack) http://craigshawgardner.com/blog/images/pcd.gif The huge brand that is now the Pussycat Dolls began life as a dance troupe formed by Robin Antin. Originally associated with such famous names as Carmen Electra and Christina Applegate, the group was recast from a dance to a music group in 2003, with Nicole Scherzinger appointed 'lead doll'. This title seems appropriate as she sings lead vocals on every song on their debut album PCD, though the follow-up expected this year will also feature vocals from other group members. Their single 'Dont Cha' includes the line 'Dont cha wish your girlfriend was hot like me' which has now become a cultural reference in its own right, and the PCD album has sold a mega 7 million copies world-over, spawning 6 singles. Second album Double The Trouble is expected this year, and hopefully wont be half as corny as that title suggests!
July 5, 200718 yr Author 21st: Kelly Rowland: 50 Points. Voted for by Skizzo, Jark, Callum, Kieran, and Strawberry Bounce; highest position 4th (Callum) http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e356/Tamyshama/9.jpg Kelly Rowland made a name for herself as one third of R&B supertrio Destiny's Child, but the cousin of Beyonce Knowles also has the solo credentials to deserve her place here. Before releasing her first solo record, she dueted with rapper Nelly on 'Dilemma', which topped the charts world-over. Simply Deep was launched in 2002, featuring 3 more singles, and sold 600k in the US and 2.5 million worldwide, establishing Kelly as a major player in R&B circles. After a period of time spent back with Destiny's Child, Kelly returned to the studio and this year released 'Like This', a hot joint which features Eve and has made the UK Top 5. The single also launched sophomore album Ms Kelly which is out in stores across America this week; definitely worth picking up a copy if you're a lover of R&B.
July 5, 200718 yr Author Chart Rundown 30-21: 30 P Diddy 29 Nelly Furtado 28 Ne-Yo 27 Usher 26 Eminem 25 Missy Elliot 24 Kanye West 23 Alicia Keys 22 Pussycat Dolls 21 Kelly Rowland
July 5, 200718 yr Author IMO the numbers 30-21 have featured a much more hip-hop and heavier R&B side of this chart. Deserving artists for me have included Alicia, Kelly, Missy, Kanye and Diddy. Im not so sure if after one record the Pussycat Dolls should be so high though, and i find Ne-Yo really boring!
July 6, 200718 yr Author 20th: Fergie: 54.5 Points. Voted for by Unfaithful Jack, Suus 73, Davidobowie, and Kieran; highest position 3rd (Unfaithful Jack) http://images.eonline.com/eol_images/Entire_Site/20061227/293.fergie.122706.jpg One quarter of the Black Eyed Peas, Stacy Ann Ferguson, better known to us as Fergie, released her debut solo effort The Dutchess last year. Having now sold 4 million copies worldwide and produced 4 hit singles, all of which have charted in the Top 3 in the US, the project has been a big success. Previously a member of girl group Wild Orchid and until recently addicted to Crystal Meth, Fergie has endured more than enough experiences in life to record serious songs like 'Big Girls Dont Cry', that also serve to show her vocal talents, but perhaps part of her all-round appeal is her 'fun' side which can be seen in songs such as 'Fergalicious'. Often compared to Gwen Stefani in image and sound, Fergie is perhaps not quite the musical legend that Gwen is, but is still a talented girl making really decent music.
July 6, 200718 yr Okay, so sadly (in some cases), the following artists received votes, but not enough to make the Top 40 of the countdown ^_^ Is there anyone you would've placed higher? :o The number by the artist is their points score (not number of votes). 2Pac - 11 50 Cent - 2 702 - 10 Amy Winehouse - 12 Anastacia - 20 Blaque - 4 Boyz II Men - 6 Chris Brown - 18 Christina Milian - 19 Coolio - 6 Craig David - 13 Diana Ross - 7.5 Dr. Dre - 8 Deborah Cox - 4 En Vogue - 18 Estelle - 10 Eternal - 17 Eve - 9 Gabrielle - 2 Gnarls Barkley - 12 Gwen Stefani - 15 Gym Class Heroes - 18 James Brown - 16 James Morrison - 18 Javine - 16 Katharine McPhee - 7 Keisha White - 2 Lenny Kravitz - 6 Lil Kim - 10 Lionel Richie - 9 LL Cool J - 1 Lupe Fiasco - 13 Lynden David Hall - 8 Macy Gray - 7 Marques Houston - 1 Mis-Teeq - 16 Mya - 14 Nelly - 4 NERD - 13 Omarion - 14 Outkast - 20 Pharrell - 2 Prince - 11 R Kelly - 19 Raghav - 18 Robin Thicke - 10 Sade - 8 Samantha Mumba - 13 Sean Paul - 15 Snoop Dogg - 3 Stacie Orrico - 3 Stevie Wonder - 1 SWV - 12 T-Pain - 7 Tamia - 19 Terence Trent D'Arby - 2 Teriyaki Boyz - 5 Terri Walker - 12 The Game - 1 The Streets - 20 Toni Braxton - 13 Tyler James - 15 Will Smith - 12 So were there any surprises there? Most of the above artists received just 1 vote and none got more than 3; perhaps some of those who surprisingly didnt make the Top 40 are R Kelly, Mis-teeq and Eve? :( She deserved better IMO. The Top 40 is beginning next! :funky: I would have voted for some of those like Gwen & Anastacia but I didn't think they were R&B. Also, I didn't vote for Nelly Furtado becuase I thought we were told not to? Anyway, great chart so far Jack. I'm hoping Mariah will get top 3. I reckon Beyonce or Rihanna could win this though. Definate top 5 for Destiny's Child I'd say.
July 6, 200718 yr Author Well, I let people decide for themselves what is R&B and what isnt, but I think Gwen is clearly hugely popular, so perhaps people didnt consider her R&B :D Rightly, really. Next one coming soon ^_^
July 6, 200718 yr Author 19th: Jennifer Lopez: 56 Points. Voted for by Skizzo, Kieran, and Strawberry Bounce; highest position 1st (Skizzo) http://images.askmen.com/galleries/singer/jennifer-lopez/pictures/jennifer-lopez-picture-2.jpg Jennifer Lopez is undeniably one of the entertainment's most famous women. The Latin beauty released her debut album On The 6 in the Summer of 1999 and ever since her musical career has blossomed; she started out with lighter R&B along the lines of 'If You Had My Love' and her style has generally remained the same over the course of four more albums. In 2007 she released her debut Spanish language album which has performed well despite poor reviews. Always choosing her singles perfectly in order to stay on top of her game, JLo knows what sells and hopefully we'll get yet another brilliant record later this Summer when she releases her much-anticipated 5th English studio album.
July 6, 200718 yr Well, I let people decide for themselves what is R&B and what isnt, but I think Gwen is clearly hugely popular, so perhaps people didnt consider her R&B :D Rightly, really. Next one coming soon ^_^ She would have been my #2 or #3 if I included her :( Great stuff for J.Lo
July 6, 200718 yr I do love J.Lo's music. ''Get Right'' is amazing  Hate her as a person tho :puke2:
July 6, 200718 yr Yay for Nelly Furtado, although I didn't vote for her myself, as she's only released one R&B album. The top 5 will probably consist of Beyonce, Destiny's Child, Justin Timberlake, Rihanna and possibly Mariah Carey. I think Kelis, TLC and Aaliyah have a good chance of making the top 10.
July 6, 200718 yr Author 18th: Timbaland: 59 Points. Voted for by Unfaithful Jack, Rooney, Blade 699, Davidobowie, Jark, and Callum; highest position 5th (Rooney) http://img2.timeinc.net/ew/dynamic/imgs/061207/163917__timbaland_l.jpg Tim Mosley is a 36 year old rapper and record producer who at the turn of the century and again in 2006 rose to prominence as one of the biggest and most influential producers on the R&B scene. He has produced countless songs for or with other artists, most notably Aaliyah and Missy Elliott. In 2006 Timbaland became a house-hold name when widely credited with re-inventing and sexing-up Nelly Furtado's music and image for her hugely successful R&B album Loose. Timbaland co-produced ten of that album's tracks with partner Danja, including the hits 'Promiscuous' and 'Say It Right'. Not content assisting Ms Furtado into the major league, he recruited her to feature on his own solo single 'Give It To Me', along with Justin Timberlake, which hit the top spot in the UK and US. A big fan of up-and-coming R&B star Keri Hilson, Timbaland featured her on several of the tracks from his solo album Shock Value, released this year, including the hit-in-the-waiting 'The Way I Are'.
July 6, 200718 yr Author Sadly its like every song on Shock Value is spoiled by being overly long or ending abrubtly or whatever - the endings all suck! Thats why The Way I Are is much better in the video version
July 6, 200718 yr Author 17th: Cassie: 60 Points. Voted for by Joao Filipe, Unfaithful Jack, Davidobowie, Rooney, and Mikal; highest position 7th (Davidobowie and Mikal) http://www.djforge.com/images/cassie_forge.jpg Cassie has had possibly the shortest musical career of anybody on this countdown; her debut album of the same name was released in August 2006. It was preceeded by the single Me & U which reached 3 in the US and 6 in the UK. Follow-up single Long Way 2 Go is arguably better but only just managed to reach the Hot 100, and in the UK missed the top 10. Her album Cassie has sold 300,000 copies in the US and her second album is expected for release in September.
July 6, 200718 yr Was hoping J.Lo would be a bit higher & lol at Cassie :lol:I do like her but I can't believe she's beaten the likes of En Vogue, Eternal. Toni Braxton & SWV who didn't even make the coutdown
