July 22, 200717 yr Author 2nd: Beyonce: 133 Points. Voted for by Joao Filipe, Simon, Suus 73, Skizzo, Jark, Mikal, Callum, Kieran, Strawberry Bounce and Howoriginal; highest position 1st (Howoriginal) http://img.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2007/02_02/beyonce_468x362.jpg 25 year old Beyonce Knowles from Texas is undoubtedly one of the most famous women in the music business. She gained fame with Destiny's Child, the biggest-selling girl group of all time whose numerous R&B jams propelled them to superstardom. Having released 3 huge albums with the girls, Beyonce went solo. Dangerously In Love, released in 2003, has sold over 7 million copies worldwide and includes the hits 'Crazy In Love' and 'Baby Boy'. The album was met with great critical acclaim and for many Destiny's Child fans is the best of the Independant Women's solo records. Follow-up B'Day finally arrived in 2006, launched on Beyonce's birthday. First single 'Deja Vu' was a big success in Europe and also fared well on the Hot 100, but it was not until second single 'Irreplacable' that Bee truly took control of America once again; the song topped the Hot 100 for a whopping ten weeks. To date the album has sold 5 million copies worldwide and continues to go strong. Beyonce and the girls have hinted at a possible DC reunion in future but for now, her fans can look forward to a release of every single song on BDay (exaggeration, i know lol) and a new album is expected in 2008. 1st: Rihanna: 174 Points. Voted for by Unfaithful Jack, Simon, Suus 73, Rooney, Skizzo, Davidobowie, Jark, Orlando, Mikal, Callum, Kieran, and Howoriginal; highest position 1st (Unfaithful Jack, Davidobowie, Mikal and Callum) http://www.xbox.com/NR/rdonlyres/B38BF03D-A619-4040-B7F8-03BA22BC7F57/0/ilmRihanna.jpg Rihanna is a singer from Barbados who got her big break aged 15 when music producer Evan Rogers saw her singing and decided to record material with her in the US. Sent out to various record companies, it was Jay-Z's Def Jam label who signed her; ironic given that his long-term partner Beyonce is cited by Rihanna as a major musical influence. Rihanna's debut album, Music Of The Sun, was released in August 2005; Lead single 'Pon De Replay' was a huge hit, reaching number 2 in the UK and US. MOTS sold 2 million copies world-over and less than a year later, follow-up A Girl Like Me hit the shops in April 06. Once again the lead single was a considerable success, 'SOS' topping the Hot 100 and also getting to #2 in the UK. Follow-up single 'Unfaithful' became her third gigantic hit and Rihanna was becoming a big name in the industry. In 2007 Rihanna experienced mega success; 'Umbrella' topped the Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart, where it is currently number 1 and has been for an incredible 9 weeks. Third album Good Girl Gone Bad has already sold a million copies worldwide and looks set to be easily Rihanna's most successful album. Already she has filmed videos for the 2nd and 3rd singles to be taken from GGGB, with 'Shut Up And Drive' looking set to be a big summer hit on both sides of the Atlantic. Rihanna won first spot on this countdown easily, with a huge lead of 40 points; it seems her work ethic and catchy tunes have paid off!

July 22, 200717 yr I think there are more deserving acts that should be in the top 10 such as The Supremes, Michael Jackson, TLC, Destiny's Child, Beverley Knight and Janet Jackson.
July 22, 200717 yr Author I think there are more deserving acts that should be in the top 10 such as The Supremes, Michael Jackson, TLC, Destiny's Child, Beverley Knight and Janet Jackson. Possibly, though you didnt actually vote for Beverley :P
July 22, 200717 yr I like Rihanna and glad she's number one, but I don't neccessary think she deserved it. TLC, Destinys Child & Michaeal Jackson have all had better impacts on the chart, IMHO.
July 22, 200717 yr Author I forgot about her. I forgot about some of them on their actually! :o  Easy to do! I forgot about a couple too. Faith Evans and Busta Rhmyes were amongst the artists not to receive any votes. Edited July 22, 200717 yr by Jark

July 22, 200717 yr I like Rihanna but she didn't deserve No.1 above acts like Janet, Mariah, DC etc She doesn't even deserve top 20 imo  :P Still gutted that En Vogue & Eternal didn't make the countdown    Great work though Jark
July 22, 200717 yr Author Im thinking of an R&B songs countdown next :D Anyone care to suggest how we could do this? Perhaps for each artist in the Top 40 of this countdown, have a poll for their best single and then ask people to vote or something?
