I just had to use that image! Jamelia Niela Davis reigns from Birmingham, and is 26 years of age. Her debut single 'So High' was released in 1999 but failed to chart. However, the first single from her debut album was 'I Do' and peaked inside the UK Top 40. That album's biggest hit 'Money' reached the Top 5, whilst 'Call Me' was also a success, though the Drama album itself only reached #39 and failed to be certified. Jamelia's comeback in 2003 was not looking promising either when 'Bout' featuring the US rapper Rah Digga again only just managed to make the Top 40, but all was rectified when follow-up single 'Superstar' became a summer smash, debuting at 8 and peaking at number 3. The song also established Davis in Australia where it topped the chart. The third single taken from the Thank You album was the title track which reached number 2 and has become Jamelia's biggest hit to date. The album sold over 500,000 copies in the UK alone and by now Jamelia was a big name is R&B. She took time off and in 2006 returned with Walk With Me, her third studio album. It was also her first to be launched off the back of the lead single, which proved a bad decision as it sneaked into the UK Album Chart at just 21. Promotion was under-whelming yet both the lead single 'Something About You' and follow-up 'Beware Of The Dog' managaed to sneak into the lower end of the Top 10 thanks to heavy support from Radio 1. The third single 'No More' missed the Top 40 altogether and Jamelia left Parlophone and EMI, unhappy with the promotional efforts they had made. She now plans to find a deal and release a fourth album at some point this or next year; whether she sticks with pop or returns to the edgier R&B of her more successful Thank You record remains to be seen.

Ciara is a 21 year old R&B singer and dancer who has been nicknamed 'The Queen Of Crunk'. Aged 18 in the summer of 2004, her debut album Goodies reached number 3 in the US, selling 2.6 million copies there and 5 million world-over; it included the hit singles 'Goodies' and '1, 2 Step'. Follow-up album 'The Evolution' appeared in the Christmas of 2006 but 3 singles in has failed to make as much of an impact, selling 1 million in the US and approaching 2 million sales worldwide.

Amerie Mi Marie Rogers is an American singer from Massachusetts whose parents originate from Korea. She is 27 and released her debut album All I Have in 2002, to mixed critical response. The album went Gold in the US but produced only one hit, 'Why Dont We Fall In Love'. Amerie returned to the studio and in 2005 she re-appeared, with a sexier image and hotter beats. The first single from the album Touch was '1 Thing' which receieved considerable praise from music critics and was an airplay hit. Amerie was hailed as 'the new Beyonce' with '1 Thing', which got to 8 in the US and 4 in the UK, being hailed 'better than Crazy In Love'; however, the Touch album did not create any larger sales than her debut, also reaching Gold in the US, as well as Silver in the UK. The project did however make Amerie a more known name in music circles and the hype around her return in 2007 saw 'Take Control' peak inside the UK Top 10. Album 'Because I Love It' was preceeded by a mixtape of the same name, and became her first to achieve a place inside the UK Top 20. It is gearing up for a US release this August; hopefully Amerie's label will change the tracklisting to include some of the hotter beats from the mixtape, namely 'Blow' and 'Get Gone'. Amerie's 2nd single from the BILY album 'Gotta Work' is looking set to explode in the UK later this month.

7th: Aaliyah: 102 Points.

Voted for by Joao Filipe, Off Da Endz, Suus 73, Skizzo, Jark, Orlando, Callum, Kieran, and Strawberry Bounce; highest position 3rd (Joao Filipe and Suus 73)

Aaliyah is still one of the most influential women in R&B to this day; she was born in 1979 and died in a plane crash in 2001, aged just 21. During her short time in the industry, she released three studio albums. Her debut Age Aint Nothing But A Number sold 3 million in the US and double that worldwide; it was produced by R Kelly and featured the hit singles 'Back And Forth' and 'At Your Best'. Follow-up record One In A Million was produced by Missy Elliott and Timbaland and released in 1997 when Aaliyah was 17. The album matched the success of it's predecessor and established not only Aaliyah but also Missy and Timbaland as leading players on the R&B scene. Before releasing her next album, Aaliyah starred in the hugely successful martial arts film Romeo Must Die alongside Jet Li; Aaliyah featured on four of the soundtrack's songs, including the number one hit 'Try Again' which was the first song ever to reach the top of the Hot 100 on airplay alone. Aaliyah's third album was self-titled and included the hit 'We Need A Resolution', which features Timbaland. The album received outstanding reviews and reasonable success, debuting at 2 in the US. For the follow-up single 'More Than A Woman' had been chosen and a video shot but airplay had instead taken off for 'Rock The Boat' so this was chosen for release instead and Aaliyah was flown to the Bahamas to shoot the music video. Having shot the video she boarded the plane to return to the US but tragically the plane crashed and Aaliyah and everyone else on board died. Both singles were posthumous success and the Aaliyah album was eventually certified triple platinum. Timbaland, a very close personal friend of Aaliyah, was greatly devastated by her death and still to this date performs tributes to her, one recent example being at the Justin Timberlake UK tour.

WTF @ Amerie being in the top 10

6th: Mary J Blige: 103 Points.

Voted for by Joao Filipe, Off Da Endz, Simon, Suus 73, Jark, Orlando, and Strawberry Bounce; highest position 1st (Joao Filipe)

http://images.askmen.com/galleries/singer/mary-j-blige/pictures/mary-j-blige-picture-1.jpg

Born in The Bronx of New York in 1971, Mary Jane Blige has had a colourful rollercoaster ride through her life and musical career. Her debut album Whats The 411? was released in 1992 to huge critical success, and was certified triple platinum. Follow-up records My Life and Share My World were also hugely successful, especially the latter which is considered her biggest seller worldwide to date, and featured the huge hit 'Not Gon' Cry'. 1999's Mary was also a reasonable success but it wasnt until fifth studio album No More Drama in 2001 that Mary was considered to be 'back'. The lead single was the fast stomper 'Family Affair' which topped the Hot 100 for six weeks and was MJB's first number 1 on that chart, and the follow-up title track 'No More Drama' was also a success. 2003 saw the release of Love & Life which received mixed but mostly negative reviews for it's bland tone. None of its singles performed brilliantly and the album was Blige's first to go just Platinum. The Breakthrough was released in late 2005 amid much anticipation and did not disappoint; the excellent recording features Blige singing about happier times and received decent reviews. The album, which includes the singles 'One' featuring U2 and 'Be Without You' was eventually certified triple platinum. Mary has endured both physical abuse and drug addiction during her time in the music business but has come through and is now at the fore front of the R&B scene, after 15 years. A greatest hits collection, Reflections: A Retrospective, celebrates this.
