Posted July 5, 200718 yr Daryl Hall & John Oates were a white soul influenced duo from Philadelphia & New York respectively. They are the most successful duo in US singles chart history, with 16 top 10 hits and 6 no. 1's, during the late 70's and 80's. Their hits include, She's gone, Sara smile, Rich girl, Kiss on my list, Private eyes, I can't go for that, Maneater, Family man, One on one, Out of touch, Say it isn't so, Adult education and Method of modern love. They got to # 1 on the US R & B charts, extremely rare for a white act, and only the 4th time since 1965. I must admit to owning their hits album. :)
July 6, 200718 yr I own a Best of compiliation & that is all the Hall & Oates I need. However for me I Can't Go For That (No Can't Go) remains their finest song just ahead of She's Gone, Maneater, Private Eyes & Rich Girl.
July 6, 200718 yr i found them rather insipid, they were out in the punk era and as there was so much social change going on within youth culture at the time, i just couldnt be arsed with them bland m.o.r. ameri-pop acts.
July 6, 200718 yr They belong to that (almost) big-hair MOR/AOR American 80s scene that includes Supertramp, REO Speedwagon, The Cars... and, whilst both Hall and Oates looked worryingly like 1970's gay porn stars, there's little doubt they released some great singles, even if all of them sound horribly dated these days.
July 6, 200718 yr A lot of their tracks had a US mix and a Euro mix. They were possibly the first band to do this. In the UK they tried to appeal to the New Romantics while in the States it was the R&B crowd. Daryl Halls solo album Sacred Songs was produced by Robert Fripp of King Crimson and forms a trilogy with Peter Gabriel 2 and Robert's own Exposure LP. Have a listen . You might like it. :P

July 6, 200718 yr In the UK they tried to appeal to the New Romantics eh?... how did they try to do this?... theres utterly nothing about them that was in the slightest 'appealing' to the new romantic movement... and i was one.
