Formed by Eric Burden, Alan Price and Chas Chandler, they were the first act produced by Mickie Most -_- , they hit the top spot with their second single "The house of the rising sun" a classic song to this day.

Other hits included, I'm crying, Don't let me be misunderstood, Bring it on home to me, We've gotta get out of this place and Don't bring me down.

After the Beatles and the Shaddows, they were the 3rd British group to top the US singles chart.

They split because of ego problems within the band. Price went solo and later joined up with Georgie Fame, Chas Chandler became a producer working with Jimi Hendrix and Slade. Burden relocated to the US and kept the band name, recuited Andy Summers later with the Police.

I liked their music B)

I know everyone remembers House Of The Rising Sun but for me Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood & We've Gotta Get Out Of This Place remain their best two songs.

loved 'em! british r&b at its best. when eric burden sung 'in this dirty old part of the city, where the sun refuse to shine, people tell me there aint no use in tryin' . (we gotta get out of this place) , he was obviously singing about the hardship of post war newcastle where he grew up.

although 'we gotta get out of this place' , and 'dont let me be misunderstood' were great tracks, my favs were 'inside looking out'.... a very unusual track to put out as a single, but it did well. 'im crying' love it! price at his keyboard best. 'its my life' though is my all time fav animals track... i simply love it! another track on about hardship and hope.

id seriously recomend any music fan to get an animals greatest hits.

...... just to add, in late 66 they had an often overlooked track 'help me girl' which was very 'northern soul' sounding.

i wonder if you phoned OCS or Weller up they would have this record to play
