Posted July 6, 200718 yr Macca gets intimate Beatles legend plays for 300 fans BBC6 MUSIC NEWS 06 Jul 2007 - There's something very magical about seeing a living legend on stage, and when it's a Beatle who is in front of you making eye contact with almost every one of the 300 small crowd in attendance you know you're witnessing something special. Last night Macca lit up the ICA in London for what was another instalment of the iTunes Festival gigs. From the moment he came on stage the cheers rang out, and he greeted his fans with his own chants before storming into a set which consisted of Beatles and Wings classics as well as songs from his brand new album Memory Almost Full. "Don't be shy" he shouted out to the crowd, as he acknowledge the intimacy of the gig, "Lets have a party" - at which point he unveiled his mandolin and paraded round stage for Dance Tonight - a song which everyone was singing along to. Macca was on form throughout, often smiling, he reacted to the crowd telling one lucky fan he "loved them" and kept pointing out that the gig was so small it felt like he was having a conversation with someone. I've seen him before at Earl's Court but that was fantastic! I've never been so near - I could nearly touch him Macca fan A moving moment came when, like he did at the Koko in London recently at another close knit gig, he paid tribute to John Lennon as he sung Here Today. For many, the hairs on the back of the neck moment came with the classic Hey Jude which had the crowd in a singing frenzy. He polished off the show with an awe inspiring rendition of Let It Be which he dedicated to a roadie who he'd worked with for some time and who had recently passed away.
