Posted July 6, 200718 yr German band Kraftwerk used electronic sounds to create their music, They had hits like Autobahn, Pocket calculator, Computer love, The model, Showroom dummies and Tour de France. Do they 80's electronic bands owe everything to Kraftwerk?
July 7, 200718 yr in a word.......................................... yes. kraftwerk were pioneering elecronic music in the mid 70's, long before our pop stars discovered it. i think that europe in particular led the way in electronic music, from kraftwerk through to 'techno' and 'trance'.
July 7, 200718 yr 'the model' was of course a 'new romantic' classic, epitomising the genre. great track, still sounds good today :)

Obv without Detroit, New York and Chicago are v important as peeps would be in jazzfunk and hiNRG hell without artists coming from those places, but then again AATW could be said is in HiNRG hell at this present moment (but obv naked woman videos mask the gayness). http://img.search.com/6/63/Daft_Punk.jpg
July 7, 200718 yr the model QgS252XT_Ts from 1978 fact fans!!!! i recommend the dvd/cd versh of this: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/2/2e/Minimum.jpg Do they 80's electronic bands owe everything to Kraftwerk? probably not, there was this 4 piece male Alternative Electronic band on the indie Fast Product records label called the Human League (also known as The Men) in the late 1970s, could say they were very heavily influenced by Kraftwerk. Unfortunatly they split up before becoming famous  however you could say 80's electronic bands (and electronic acts since then) could owe something to Bobby Orlando, American Electro Hip Hop, Sparks, Yellow Magic Orchestra, Suicide, Northern Soul, Jean Jacques Perry, Jean Marc Cerrone, Giorgio Moroder, HiNRG Disco etc etc and even people like Joe Meek and Sun Ra and even odder people like this http://images-eu.amazon.com/images/P/B0000072LJ.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg btw did i mention sparks??? PFrFhwMQMXg etUIJwhaE1Q
July 7, 200718 yr They are frankly THE most influential artists in the past 30 years... No Krafwerk = no Dance, no Techno, no Electro/Synthpop, no Industrial/EBM, no Electronica.... In short, their influence is utterly incalculable (and I would say greater than that of pretty much any band..), modern electronic-based music of any genre would simply not exist without these guys.... They actually CREATED much of the actual technology used to create electronic music.... They simply had no peers whatsoever when they started out, because their music was almost totally without any kind of history - Pop, Rock and Metal had its antecedants such as The Blues, Soul, etc, but what Kraftwerk did was something unprecedented, they created a totally NEW form of music pretty much from scratch, and a new delivery system and musical structure from the ground up.. The word genius is often over-used, but that is what these guys are - GENIUSES, there really is no argument tbh, and their influence cannot possibly be over-estimated....

July 8, 200718 yr , they invented New Romantic music genre not strictly true mikey, the new romantics came out of steve stranges club... (bugger, fogot its name... anyone?). that was going in late 79 and the new romantics didnt get out of underground london until '81. 'the model' fitted the part and was adopted by the movement rather then created it.

I'd be willing to bet that Steve Strange's club was belting out Kraftwerk tracks like "Autobahn" and others.....
July 8, 200718 yr Yeah, but "New Romantic" and "Synthpop" couldn't really have happened without Kraftwerk's over-all influence mate. I'd be willing to bet that Steve Strange's club was belting out Kraftwerk tracks like "Autobahn" and others..... as i understand it the fashion (new romantics) is seperate from the synth pop that groups like kraftwerk pioneered. new romantics would have happend with or without electronic music, the movement was more art based then music based and unlike other genres at the time (punk, ska, rock) who had a 'look' to suit the music, in this case it was a case of the music fitting the look. stranges club (ffs someone remind me!!!) played alternative/indie music... electronic music fitted that bill. tbh elecronic music was always going to happen, with or without kraftwerk. kraftwerk did pioneer this somewhat overlooked method, but sooner or later it would have happend. dont forget giorgio moroder was already experimenting in the states with it about the same time as kraftwerk... 'i feel love' also in 77 was jean michelle jarres 'oxygene' and lets not forget..... the tornadoes..'telstar'!!! #1 from 62, king rockinghams 11 had 'hoots mon' in '58!
