Thousands brave the mud to see the first ever Friday headliners

Arctic Monkeys braved to mud to make history at the T In The Park festival tonight (July 6).

 

The band were the first ever Friday evening headliners at the Scottish bash, which has moved to a three-day event for the first time since its inception in 1994.

 

The band, seen hanging out with their mates The Coral backstage earlier, stormed through a set which combined highlights from their two albums to date.

 

Frontman Alex Turner regularly addressed the crowd, asking if they were "alright" and exhorting certain fans to "cheer up". Before 'From The Ritz To The Rubble' he told them: "You don't look match fit to me".

 

After a run through their 2005 Number One debut single 'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor'[/b], Turner referenced the recent Glastonbury Festival, when he said: "In the words of Dame Shirley (Bassey), that's how it's done."

 

The star was referring to Tom Jones' bizarre cover of the song at the Princess Diana tribute concert last week (July 1), plus their own version of Bassey's 'Dimaonds Are Forever' at Glastonbury which the singing Dame praised.

The setlist was pretty similar to the one that played as Glaso only this time they played YPCSMFTLBYWSSAM and didn't play Temptation or Diamonds Are Forever this time.
