Hamburg honours Beatles

teletext.co.uk

Forty-five years after the Beatles launched their international career in Hamburg, the music-loving German city is putting up a monument to the band.

Radio station Oldie 95, the organiser, said construction will begin this year of a steel monument representing the Fab Four - Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.

The station says the £310,000 landmark will be built on a corner in the St Pauli area.

Do you think this is a good thing to do or not?

I think its a good thing, as they certainly were popular there before the UK caught on.

I think it is a great recognition of the group, when you consider they were famous there before making it big in England.
It's good to see this recognition of what Hamburg meant to the Beatles. I'm just surprised it's take this long but great news!
