NOT content with taking the pop world by storm for a second time, TAKE THAT are now going for Oscar glory.

The fab four have recorded the theme for Lock Stock genius MATTHEW VAUGHN’s upcoming blockbuster Stardust.

And the track, called Rule The World, is already being tipped to bag them the most prized statuette in showbiz.

Yesterday bookies William Hill made the tune 3/1 favourite to win the Best Original Song Oscar at next year’s ceremony.

The movie’s star-studded cast includes SIENNA MILLER, ROBERT DE NIRO, RICKY GERVAIS, IAN McKELLEN and CLAIRE DANES.

And Take That put together a pretty good team for their song too.

It was produced by Grammy award winning John Shank, who also worked on their hit album Beautiful World.

GARY BARLOW sings lead vocals, with MARK OWEN, JASON ORANGE and HOWARD DONALD providing harmonies.

Top session players the Millennia Ensemble are the orchestra and conductor Will Malone arranged the strings. It all combines to give the song an epic feel.

And to cap it all off, they recorded it at Abbey Road Studios.

A source told me: “The track is brilliant and must be in with an excellent chance of the Best Original Song Oscar.

“It is the main theme and also drops in throughout the film, so it really leaves its mark on the movie and its viewers.

“The Take That comeback has gone better than anyone could have expected, just imagine if they added an Oscar to their No1s.

They never managed to crack America — even though Back For Good was a hit there — so this would be the icing on the cake.”

Rule The World will be released as a single and Vaughn has agreed to direct the video.

The band are heading to the LA premiere of Stardust at the end of the month. The fantasy adventure is expected to be a worldwide smash.

It was filmed in the UK using a mostly British cast and many of the behind-the-scenes team from Vaughn’s breakthrough movie, Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels.

Previous Oscar song winners have included PHIL COLLINS, ELTON JOHN and BOB DYLAN.

A spokesman for William Hill said last night: “With Take That’s current track record it’s sure to sell bucketloads.

If the movie lives up to expectations a combination of Take That and a big blockbuster could prove irresistible come Oscar time.”

It's exciting. I posted it on Trousers this morning and everyone's happy there. Lets not forget though how the Sun thinks ... it loves building people up ... and then ... Also - the film is getting mixed responses at the moment.

Lets just wait tilll we hear the song ... and see the film.
