March/April 2008 will do me just fine, suggy! :D :yahoo: Comeon, ladies and gentlemen, that's only 8-9 months away. Pregnancy-length! Waiting for a baby.

It's Will's baby & I don't mind waiting for it. Just hope we keep getting these little updates to keep us going.

Wonder what's changed this time. Will seems so relaxed that the label can't be pushing him so hard to hit a deadline. KO all seemed very pressurized.

Well if it is Wills baby is it wrong to hope its a tad premature :D

That's funny Tillywhim  and no it's not wrong.

Nope. Premature babies tend to be smaller, and I would like Will's baby to be as big as possible (though not fat, obviously ). Personally, I hope it's a baby elephant (pregnancy: 1 year and 9 months, calculated from January 2007). ;)

I wonder who Will's been writing with on this album, we haven't been hearing much have we?

Funbongo's very own Soma was harassed by Bill Young for a picture. Being a 'girl of da ppl' she obliged the pop factor.

Albert caught up with him to ask a few questions. Here is how the banter went:

Albert: When can we hear sum nu material (give a chop)?

Bill: Not for a while, I am working with Greg (from Bird and the Bee) though...

Albert: How would you rate Jordan in bed on a scale of 4-11?

Bill: ik.....

Cheers munchkin, I remember about that now, how stupid of the person to call him Bill though.

I doubt Will would have been pleased. He said one time that it was Will or William but never Bill

I can't say I've heard about anyone else. Wonder if he's writing with Karen.

& possibly Eg White, though he's probably busy with lots of people. I've a feeling the success of LRN will have had artists clambering to work with him.

Well, so far he's keeping everything about album no. 4 close to his chest - the git! :P

He is but then I tend to love his surprises. :yahoo:

I've been reading through the endless articles on Pop Idol and Will's career etc on the web and I came across this article and I thought I'd post it up, I love how Will puts so much time and effort into the thinking and planning of his videos and how different they are to his earlier ones. I wonder what he'll have in store for us this time round? he's said how much he enjoys making them, do you think Will will ever have a male featured as a love interest in future videos, or would he see it as too risky?

Openly Gay Singer Will Young Comes Out Musically

When British pop star Will Young came out in the UK press on March 10, 2002, it was an exciting moment for the gay community. Just over a month earlier, Young had won the first ever Pop Idol TV contest (on which American Idol is based), with 4.6 million viewers voting for him against rival Gareth Gates. His first single had gone straight to the top of the UK charts, breaking records for fastest-selling debut, and he was arguably the most buzzed-about person in the country. Both the matter-of-fact way in which Young spoke about his sexuality (“It's totally no big deal, just part of who I am”), and the remarkably calm and supportive press reaction, seemed to herald a new era for gay people in British pop music.

Of course, there had been other openly gay pop stars (George Michael, Elton John, Stephen Gately of boyband Boyzone), but none of them had been out from the start of their careers; and, since their outings, only Elton had really remained squarely in the spotlight. Will Young felt like a test model for a new kind of pop star--the question being, would his groundbreaking openness about his sexuality affect his fan base and commercial appeal?

The answer proved to be a very emphatic ‘no.' Between 2002 and 2005, to quote his official website, Young “won two Brits [i.e. British Music Awards], had four Number One singles, two Number One albums, and sold out his last tour in 30 minutes.” Straight women continued to adore him in droves; he popped up as a regular in categories like "Favourite Male" in UK celebrity magazines. Even better, gay teenagers finally had someone they could look to as an example of how you could be young, openly gay, and still be massively popular.

While Young was open about his sexuality in real life, the persona he presented in his music videos and in live appearances was a different story. Several of the tracks in his debut album, From Now On, were covers of songs originally sung by heterosexual men

(Light My Fire by The Doors being an example), and to some extent it could be said that he had a reason for singing about his love object as “she.”

But the original songs on the album were sung the same way with “girl” being mentioned repeatedly in the single Over You. Meanwhile, his music videos showed him either entirely on his own, or in a safe crowd, with no specific love interest. The one exception was the video for Light My Fire, which took its cue from the French film Jules et Jim, showing an ambiguous relationship between two men and a woman. In it, Young was seen with his arm around a young blond man, who appeared several times in the video.

Even then the main romantic focus was a glamorous dark-haired girl--and Young continued to sing “she,” prompting one journalist in UK gay mag ‘Attitude' to write waspishly: “If you're going to come out to the entire nation, at least remember afterwards that you've done it. Write it on your hand, or something.”

Young's wariness--or his management's wariness--of actually appearing as gay in his videos highlights the extent to which pop music is still a heterosexist medium. It has tended to be straight artists who push the boundaries by singing about—and showing—same-sex sexuality. Russian duo t.A.T.u, for example, or Christina Aguilera in her Beautiful video - and it is almost always faux-lesbian, rather than gay male sexuality that is involved. Think Britney and Madonna kissing at the VMAs.

In a medium that is all about love and sexual attraction (when was the last time you heard a pop song that made no reference to either?), gay love is by and large still expected to remain, if not absolutely in the closet, then carefully gender neutral. Pop's biggest gay figureheads, George Michael and Elton John, have yet to appear in romantic situations with men in their videos. Michael's video for Outside did feature gay male sexuality, but not with him as a participant. Since then, he has made a return to hetero imagery, appearing with women in the video for his 2002 single Freeek!, and using a straight couple to illustrate the love which he sings about in 2004's Amazing (a song dedicated to his boyfriend no less).

All of which makes "Switch It On," the debut single from Will Young's new third album Keep On, a more satisfying departure. Ditching the melting, androgynous ballads that have become his trademark, Young instead goes for juddering, testosterone-driven jungle beats.

In the song's video, a spoof of eternal gay favorite Top Gun, Young comes up with his most sexually unambiguous public moment yet. All the best Top Gun scenes are here - the volleyball match, the muscle-flexing, the locker-room showdown - and added to them are some knowing looks between Young and his mustachioed co-pilot. Take a closer look at their helmets, and you'll see that they've got the words ‘Cowboy' and ‘Indian' written on them. When the inevitable girl (a Kelly McGillis look-alike) finally shows up in the last part of the video to be serenaded, it feels not like a hetero cover-up, but a mocking commentary on all the hetero cover-ups Young has done in the past. Make no mistake about it--in this video, Will Young is out.

While the rest of the album features a return to more familiar musical territory, there are still traces of Young's increasing confidence in expressing his sexuality. The bossa nova track Happiness, for example, features the line “Happiness is being gay.” In an interview with the UK edition of Marie Claire, out currently, the 26-year-old Young offers some clues as to where this newfound confidence has come from: he has experienced his first serious relationship (although he says it ended in heartbreak). As a result, he says, “I think I have become more sexual. Not in some rampant way! But I think I used to be more guarded. I came out in public and that slightly restricted me. It was like my development was stunted. I wasn't looking at me, I was looking at how other people were perceiving me.”

This (entirely understandable) anxiety over how other people might perceive him has not completely disappeared from Young's work. The video for the second single from his new album, All Time Love, again blurs over his sexuality in a manner reminiscent of the "Light My Fire" video, with both a male and a couple of female figures lingered on by the camera as if to suggest that they might be potential love interests. At least this time, however, it is the male figure to the fore--and that can't be an accident.

With his increasing openness, both in interviews and in his videos, Young is paving the way for other gay artists to feel comfortable expressing themselves directly in their work, rather than through heterosexual imagery - and for straight audiences to be used to seeing it.
