Posted July 11, 200718 yr Jamelia answers Kerry Ann Eustice's questions on being a working mum, splitting with her label and the future. NEWS Shopper has been trying to pin urban popstress Jamelia down for a chat for weeks. But her schedule is so hectic all she can muster is a few snatched minutes to reply to a handful of questions. So we tried to make them good, meaty ones, but her replies were short yet sweet. But considering the constraints on her time - as well as being a Mobo-winning performer, Jamelia is a mother of two and footballer Darren Blyfield's other half - it's not really surprising. She can, however, be caught this weekend, giving her full attention to the Trust Thamesmead Summer Festival. She said: "I recently moved to London and love performing here. This is particularly exciting because it's near to where I live in Kent. "I think community events are extremely important and, yes, I really enjoy getting involved." She added: "I love going out on stage and I've always really enjoyed this type of summer event. The crowds are fantastic. "I hear last year more than 20,000 people turned up at the Trust Thamesmead's Summer Festival. "It is going to be amazing." Despite having two young girls, aged one and seven, Jamelia is still managing to pack in the live shows this summer. As well as Saturday's show she is due at yet another concert on Sunday. Just how does she balance being a pop star and being a mum? She said: "I am 100 per cent dedicated to both and when you enjoy something, you put your all into it. Somehow it just works. "My schedule is crazy. Everyday is different, which I love." Earlier this year, Jamelia left long-term record label Parlophone. Of the move, she said: "Yes, it was my decision, but I loved the individual people on the team. "However, 10 years with one company, when I was signed as a child, is a long time. "Music is my passion and I'll always be working on it. "There are so many exciting challenges and prospects coming up this year, it's a new chapter and I can't wait. I could tell you details, but I'd have to kill you." Jamelia's sanguine attitude applies to most situations. She's infamously open with her opinions - especially towards dependent women - and when she has had to fend off advances from sky-high-profile stars. "I always get star-struck," she admits, "but I'm usually pretty confident in these situations; depending on the proposition." She told Robert De Niro in no uncertain terms she was not going to becoming his leading lady and such straight-talking has landed her in a few pickles. But, this is not a problem, apparently. "But I like pickles," she insists. If you don't want to find yourself in a pickle with Jamelia, just don't ask her about her Wives And Girlfriends' status. "I'm not a WAG!" is all she will say on the matter. There's little doubt this faith in herself and her abilities has helped her to succeed. She agrees: "I've always been focused and ambitious; there are always things I'll strive to achieve. "The day I lose my ambition is the day I stop working." July 11, 200718 yr I just sent this to Jamelia, with regards to her deal: Hi there, Ms Davis. How you doooiiiinnnn'? I was just wondering what the real deal is between you and your label, 'cos I'm (and others on here) are confused as hell as to what actually went down. Did they decide to let you go, or did you refuse to re-new your contract? Any information would be greatly appreciated as it would help us understand the real deal. Hopefully she'll be bothered to reply to the seriousness of this question and not reply to silly sh*t such as teeth surgery and miming.
July 11, 200718 yr  It's a good question to ask. I hope she gets back to you ;) Knowing her, she'll probably read it, laugh, and then click the 'delete' button <_<
July 12, 200718 yr  and go back into the living room with a beer and a ciggy   Sat in front of the TV in her dressing gown with Téja waiting on her hand and foot
July 12, 200718 yr LOL yeah Im not convinced about her saying it was her decision because so many artists say it when they are doing rubbish look at G4
July 12, 200718 yr True. At first, I was a little unconvinced, but remember when 'Drama' sold like 37 copies and they still let her take time off to raise her daughter and record a new album? Then she blew up and it was what it was. I think she gave them a big 'F*CK YOU' before walking out the office doors. Jamelia's the type to take off her heels and beat a b*tch down, so if she was dropped, I think she'd say so. She really wouldn't give a sh*t. Remember when she said she'd chop off her man's balls if she found him cheating? OUCH.
