I remember this group from the early to mid 70's, and 3 songs in particular, 'Little Willy', 'Ballroom Blitz', and 'Love Is Like Oxygen'. Just was wondering if any of you out there on retroland may remember them, too...

They were huge in Australia. Peppermint Twist was an Aussie only single and made #1. We also had something called 'The Sweet Singles Album" that was one of the biggest selling albums of the 70s. The people who collect them in Australia are the MOST psychotic record collectors in the world. They're from another planet.

thought there was a 'sweet' thread recently .

i didnt like them much, as a teenage boy i was possibly their target age/audience. id been into the 60's sounds and didnt take to the showmanship and party pop atmosphere of glamrock, let alone the goddamn awful fashions. if sweet had been dressed in denim and leather and had not picked up their girlfreinds make up bag then they would have been regarded much more seriously.

retrospectively sweet were a good pop group, though not quite to my taste, my fav is 'love is like oxygen'

Yeah! Gimme Teenage Rampage, Block Buster and Hell Raiser. Action is a lesser known track but it's a corker.

I think I have liked them more since I can't bring myself to listen to that bast*rd Glitter's stuff anymore.

After painfully reading all 38 pages of this forum, I saw nothing referencing this group, thus my starting it... :w00t:

Sorry to have dredged up such god-awful memories for you...

lol... i think its was in a glamrock thread... it matters not.

My little brother was born in 1986 and The Sweet are one of his all-time favourite bands - I think it might be because I bought a cheap re-issue of 'Little Willy' around 1991 and played it constantly.

I also like 'Teenage Rampage' and 'Blockbuster' but I hate 'Coco' and I'm really not sure what the hell 'Poppa Joe' was supposed to be about.

I loved The Sweet. They were actually a much bigger

Singles Group, around the World, than most of the other

UK Groups of the past 30 Years - with the possible exception

of Queen. However, Sweet were bigger than Queen in Europe's

Singles Charts - 8 German Number 1 Singles, & 36 Weeks

at Number 1 there - Queen have never had a German No. 1

Single.

None of these Groups were bigger Globally, (or in the USA),

than Sweet, as regards Singles - Slade, T Rex, Take That,

Oasis, & many, many more.
