Posted July 14, 200718 yr Denny Laine Working On Book About Wings And Paul McCartney Source: unknown Paul McCartney's former Wings bandmate Denny Laine is set to spill the secrets behind their turbulent friendship in a new book. McCartney formed the group with guitarist Laine in 1971, but the pair fell out in January 1980 after the former Beatle was taken into police custody for marijuana possession at Japan's Tokyo airport. The arrest forced the group to cancel international tour dates and Laine reportedly never forgave McCartney for what he saw as an act of betrayal. Laine has since teamed up with a professional ghostwriter to work on his autobiography, which is expected to shed light on his fractured relationship with the Let It Be hitmaker. A source close to Laine says, "Denny has been approached by one of music's most reputable authors about a much-anticipated biography. In the past, questionable motives. Denny would have none of it.
July 14, 200718 yr Now that Denny's wife & long-standing friend of the McCartney's, JoJo is out of the way (she also died of cancer), the time is right for an autobiography. No doubt it will tell us that Paul is a talented control freak who likes to project the image that he is a happy go lucky "scouser", but behind the scenes is more ruthless & conscientious about his image. So it won't really tell us anything new. To be fair what killed Wings off was not the drugs bust, but John Lennon's murder in Dec 1980 by a crazed fan as that understandably scared the sh1t out of Paul & killed off his will to tour. He did not start to tour again until 1989.
July 14, 200718 yr In 1982, he released the song "Japanese Tears," a visible attack on McCartney, much like John Lennon's "How Do You Sleep?" He filed for bankruptcy in the mid-Eighties (he had sold his lucrative co-publishing rights to "Mull of Kintyre" to co-author McCartney). However, he continued to record music and has appeared at Beatles conventions and on tributes to both The Beatles and Wings. Guess he's spent them all and looking for more cash.
