Paint, It Black's the much better song. The Beatles were trying to be clever with PW. That Frere Jacques bit is pretty annoying. Much better is the remix.

Paperback Believer: Beatles vs. Monkees

Went for the Stones
Best Soundclash ever. I really can't separate them so I'm going to abstain. Either one is a worthy winner.
That was the hardest soundclash yet. Two classic songs, but in the end I went for Paperback Writer.
The Beatles because it has a killer B-side "Rain", whilst the Stones has the rubbish "Long Long While".

I like Long Long While. Simon Napier Bell producd a great cover version with a band called Fresh. It's one of The Stones most under-rated flips. When Jagger sings "I was wrong babe, but not this time" is one of his best vocals.

Ok, I've relented and gone for the Fab Four on the basis of thisispop's excellent 'Rain' argument. A case of the flip being better than the hit if I ever heard one.

TBH I dunno how you and TiP can base your argument on the B-side, it's irrelevant.... We aint judging the B-sides, the whole idea of "Soundclash" is surely to base an opinion on the actual tunes that are in the poll...... Well, at least that's what I did, and naturally went for "Paint It Black", because it is the better song of the two......

TBH I would have chosen the two B-sides for this if it was a "record" clash but as stated above this is about the two SONGS chosen!
