Police have raided three football clubs as part of an investigation into alleged corruption in football.

Newcastle United is believed to be one of the clubs raided but the other clubs involved have yet to be named.

The operation is not connected to Lord Stevens' ongoing Quest inquiry into the Premiership and was "totally independent", police said.

Search warrants were executed on the club premises and two homes between 0730 and 0900 BST.

A police spokesman said: "We can confirm that search warrants were served at three football clubs and the homes of two individuals in connection with corruption in football and its impact on owners and shareholders."

A Northumbria Police spokesman said they were aware that "an operation" had been carried out by their London colleagues at St James' Park, the home of Newcastle United

Hopfuly they will shut newcastle down! I mean....

Humm no idea what is going on though

Oh, how my heart bleeds for them

Wonder who the other two clubs are.. probablies Bolton and Portsmouth at a guess

This is pretty big stuff. :o

I think it might be about Souness more than Big Sam tbh, or it might be about both or maybe even nothing to do with either of them at all.

serves them right for trying to buy a Boro reject team

Geremi, Viduka, Queudrue

Rangers named as team #2 so your Souness connection could well be right Rooney

Souness managed Newcastle and Rangers

Blackburn as the other then maybe?

Oh dar, David won't be pleased

It's been confirmed on the BBC Sports site that Portsmouth and Rangers are the other two clubs that have been raided

Seems that its definately to do with the bungs scandal a while back, then

The players this corruption thing involves are Boumsong and Faye, who were both bought from Rangers and Portsmouth so that's why those 2 clubs are involved in all this as well.
Won't Newcastle have points added as Boumsong was hardly an advantage, was he?
