The list is alphabetical though. The girl above Darius is probably the most successful at the moment. (Ellie)

I think what makes it worse is that before PSTOS, because we hadn't heard much for so long, our expectations were very low. After the show it all changed, we were so excited, and thought that now things would be different, and people would have to take notice of his talent, and with a new management team ,things would start happening immediately. Because our expectations were raised,and why shouldn't they have been, the fact that nothing appears to be is happening is even harder to accept now. Sue
The difference is that now he's busy setting things up. Even his parents don't always know what he's doing.

I think neither Darius nor his management had pre-planned for him getting as far as he did in the show. It was just another challenge and then there was the bait - Rolando Villazon. He had to either "let it pass him by" or step back into the reality TV arena.

Like us, they maybe thought voting would follow the usual pattern of celeb talent shows i.e that Danny or Kym would lead the vote because of their higher profile in the UK and possibly Bernie, given the example of voters keeping Coleen in DOI while better skaters were voted off.

Instead the public could tell which singers enjoyed singing that style of music, really wanted to learn the techniques and sang with genuine feeling rather than acting out what they thought was the sentiment of the song/aria, and for once, the public voted accordingly.

The win though created a group of people with very different expectations..........Darius the bass baritone rather than Darius the singer/songwriter.

Nothing much usually happens immediately after any of these shows, other than those which have an organised tour.

My impression is that Darius is using the shows he's doing as a testing ground for whether he can create a fusion of many styles to please the majority in the one brief act, whether he can do the same for the album. If he can't, he'll have to decide whether to pursue or drop classical crossover.

I'll agree with that, BT. On top of that, he's re establishing his life in the UK - he's mainly been in LA for the last 6 yrs or so. New management, new life style and new type of performances. Even his family don't know what he's doing half the time. It'll settle soon and we'll know more. Darius isn't deliberately keeping us in the dark. It feels more like a falling run to me.

But doesn't it seem ridiculous to leave the responsibility for communication with the public about what he's doing to a hard pressed singer who may be enclosed in a recording studio or travelling up and down the country for shows or trying to juggle both.

Twitter is not designed for information which needs to remain in sight for a while. Facebook is a bit better but not ideal either. Whose responsibility is it to update the website, surely not D's? Don't tell me it's too tight a timescale for the 30th May date to go up. That I just don't believe.

Sorry for being a bozo as usual, but what's happening on the 30th of May?

A 3/4 day festival in Ayrshire to celebrate Rabbie Burns, apparently. Darius is down to headline, according to the organisers.

Rhydian, Katherine, Aled and many others all proudly sing traditional Welsh songs and record them on their albums, will Darius be tempted to work some Burns or other traditional Scottish songs into his?

Should he or not?

Should he perhaps hold the thought for a later album dedicated to his own interpretation of that style of music?

Thanks for the info ladies :)

I think it's almost certain that Darius will attend this and he'll probably be very busy gigging and PA'ing for the next 13 days after it too, as I am almost certainly going abroad on the 30th for 2 weeks. Typical! :rolleyes:

So, you and I are in transit on the 30th, going and coming, respectively. I'm also away for the weekend of 11th-13th for a wedding.

I'm used to missing even pre-arranged dates. Real life still takes precedence - just!

I just have to hope I can squeeze some D time in another time. It's not such a concern as it was when he'd be on the first available flight straight back to LA and no-one knew when the next chance to see him would be.

I just can't travel. There's no other reason for me not to be able to go. The alternative is worse though.

I'd love to hear Darius sing more Burns' songs and more of the many truly hauntingly beautiful Scottish songs which are now largely forgotten. I don't know why we have not valued them and given them the same media attention as the Irish and Welsh have.

Maybe a singer like Darius who's known throughout the UK and has the ability to sing different genres the way they should be sung, rather than "interpret them" to make them funky/quirky and add unnecessary vocal gymnastics, could revive and popularise some of the best airs which were written for lone voices and minimum accompaniment. He seems so comfortable singing that way.

Others have tried but failed to connect properly with the material.

I think Darius could empathize with Burns' values as expressed in his poems and songs.......... not as he lived his life!

I'd love to hear Darius sing this one.

A Man's a Man for A' That

Is there for honest Poverty

That hings his head, an' a' that;

The coward slave-we pass him by,

We dare be poor for a' that!

For a' that, an' a' that.

Our toils obscure an' a' that,

The rank is but the guinea's stamp,

The Man's the gowd for a' that.

What though on hamely fare we dine,

Wear hoddin grey, an' a that;

Gie fools their silks, and knaves their wine;

A Man's a Man for a' that:

For a' that, and a' that,

Their tinsel show, an' a' that;

The honest man, tho' e'er sae poor,

Is king o' men for a' that.

Ye see yon birkie, ca'd a lord,

Wha struts, an' stares, an' a' that;

Tho' hundreds worship at his word,

He's but a coof for a' that:

For a' that, an' a' that,

His ribband, star, an' a' that:

The man o' independent mind

He looks an' laughs at a' that.

A prince can mak a belted knight,

A marquis, duke, an' a' that;

But an honest man's abon his might,

Gude faith, he maunna fa' that!

For a' that, an' a' that,

Their dignities an' a' that;

The pith o' sense, an' pride o' worth,

Are higher rank than a' that.

Then let us pray that come it may,

(As come it will for a' that,)

That Sense and Worth, o'er a' the earth,

Shall bear the gree, an' a' that.

For a' that, an' a' that,

It's coming yet for a' that,

That Man to Man, the world o'er,

Shall brothers be for a' that.

I think Darius would sing it with much more feeling for the depth of the emotion expressed in the song than Paolo Nutini does here.

It's an eighteenth century jibe against the class system, and against valuing people for outward image and money, like today's celeb/money worship and it asserts the true value of honest people no matter their perceived status.

IMHO Paolo sings the tune and words accurately but it's too fast and sing songy and the message is lost.

Darius has the perfect cheeky irreverence to carry the most cynical of Burns's works and the tone to enrichen the more poignant ones.

It's a big advantage to be an actor who can really sing and vice versa.
