Lots do happen by word of mouth. He just would have to start slow and build. Foundations are such an important part of anything built to last.

Yes but he has already built the foundations, are you saying there is a crack or settlement in them already.
BT...every time you put SF...I start to wonder what I said, then realise who you are talking about
The last album didn't do too well. The type of music has changed.

I also feel he would be better starting with lots of small gigs and build up his fan base again.

It's been a long time and if his music has changed....

We're still around but how many have fallen away..

But I also know many who are also waiting....keep asking me to let them know when he is doing something :)

I'm not even sure if they got round to getting Dive In....it wasn't in the supermarkets long enough.

I bought them the first single...and got them all signed

but they do want to go to his gigs.

Gigging and building up, spreading the word via myspace, youtube etc is a tried and tested strategy and it has created a loyal fanbase, particularly for groups. It isn't easy and it leaves no time for family and friends. They must be hungry for success. To work that strategy for a launch next year would mean constant gigging from six to nine months before and having something tangible (an E.P.) or individual downloadable songs to whet new fans' appetites for the album to follow.

I see no sign that Darius is that hungry and rates the money and fame a huge selling album would achieve enough to make such a commitment.

It's been 2 years, nearly 3 years, since Darius was appearing in a promotional capacity for his own music on TV.

His gigs since have been sporadic and not well publicised. Sometimes that is deliberate because if it's an intimate gig, word of mouth will fill the venue.

He hasn't done any of the summer festivals either for 2 years.

In brief, for 2 years Darius has made no sustained effort to court fans.

IMHO, he should have had an EP of his music ready to go on the back of either Chicago or Guys and Dolls, making it first available for sale at the theatre, and then launched a promotional campaign for the next 3/4 month before releasing a double a-side single.

My impression is very much that doing interview after interview saying the same things and travelling endlessly, staying in hotels just isn't what he wants any more. When he works over here he usually stays with friends, people he can talk to and trust.

He has said that he'll do no more gigs until he can offer the new music. It was Portsmouth 2005 the last gig I saw. It seems ages ago. I do agree that he shouldn't just carry on with the likes of 'Colourblind' that was 5yrs ago

I can see he wants to move on to more mature music and he thinks a long gap might draw a line under the 'teen idol' Mercury promoted him as, through choice of singles, TV for younger people, teen and celeb mags. They had four good and individual songwriters and let them slip through their hands just as pop wasgiving way to the ........singer/songwriter era.

It was only when they got an unlnown singer/songwriter with a good voice but very little charisma that they had to rethink the strategy. They poured millions into her, launched her, made her a success and let her sink or swimon the release of her second album.

He's well shot of them.

MT has gone some way to changing public perception of Darius but it was only in a coupls of pockets of the country. He needs to be high profile in every region either by doing something similar or gigging in several venues within one regionat a time or find a TV vehicle, if he wants to raise his profile nationwide

He's very welcome at Lancaster, Preston, Kendal, Carlise, Blackpool, Blackburn....then he can spread a little further a field....actually there's a lovely village hall here in Bolton-le-Sands :D

to be honest, I always thought "popstar" sat uncomfortably, Darius was never a teen aimed pop act to me, he is so much better than that.

I am hoping for mature, more songwriter stuff rather than playing festivals, I have always thought of pearls thrown to swine where Darius is concerned

He is better than what they were making him do.

He can come to this area anytime he wants. Backing tracks and pop parties were just so wrong for him. Everytime you hear him just sing, youy just wish that was what the public got the chance to hear. At least we know he may be going that way now. Not that I like all the music he likes but at least it's his choice.
