July 21, 200718 yr Regarding Darius not being in the media or press much, do you remember him asking us to vote for a close friend actress Naomi Harris in I think the bafta awards, she is quoted in her write up as saying - Quotation: I have issues with the whole concept of being famous. I'm very private and I hate the idea of intrusion. My ultimate fear is to be scrutinised and judged like some Big Brother contestant. Maybe its rubbed off on D. Hope not. She is dating Orlando Bloom according to this is london. Useless information I know.
July 21, 200718 yr Thanks, Preston. She doesn't want to be scrutinised and she's dating Orlando Bloom? I don't think so!
July 21, 200718 yr Natasha and the boys were seen in London last Sunday. Fabulous. That means he's back and hopefully in the studio.
July 21, 200718 yr Do you think, like me, that when Darius is in London he'll do some tracks with the Misfits?
July 21, 200717 yr He still seems really fond of the team. I think they all undertand each other and D is very relaxed with them.
July 21, 200717 yr I loved that they left the studio and did the whole Dive In tour with Darius. Not many producers would do that. Peteandhis family sat directly in front of me at Chicago one night. I recognised him instantly but I didn't speak to him, because family time is private in my book.
July 21, 200717 yr It was really good celeb spotting, wasn't it. Like you, I left people to themselves. D was different, he was there as a performer not a private individual
July 21, 200717 yr He still seems really fond of the team. I think they all undertand each other and D is very relaxed with them. Yes, that's true. Perhaps it's because it's a genuine relationship, not one set up for him by 19. It was one forged before he auditioned for Pop Idol. It's strange to think that on the same night just after Popstars, two men with good reputations in the music business gave Darius their cards and asked him to get in touch and as a penniless and much maligned student, he went for the creative option. He knew instinctively which one he could trust and met up with Nicky Graham who introduced him to the Misfits and he totally ignored the other guy - Simon Cowell. BTW Did you know that Simon Cowell was one of the judges who selected Will Young for the GMTV boyband? I didn't know those two knew each other before PI.
July 22, 200717 yr Did you know that Kym marsh (now kim ryder from hearsay) had a record contract at 14 years old. She was on the orange playlist the other night and talked about it. A lot of these artistes seem to have a musical past we dont know about so when she went on popstars she wasnt an amateur as such.
On Popstars Kym said she'd been auditioning for years but I didn't know about the contract. I think Darius realised right away that he was in the midst of show school people, talent contest regulars, even some semi-professsional singers and he felt totally out of his depth. He didn't know what he'd got into, felt insecure and put on a big show of confidence to cover up. He had never been a performer.......just a guy who wrote songs and sang them for his family and friends. He said once he'd never used a hand mic until Pop Idol. His act was good, too good - the whole country thought he was super confident (and other similies, you wouldn't find in the thesaurus). For this 3rd album, I'd actually prefer a low key launch on his own label, without businessmen coming up with "campaigns". Let the story be the music. If Steve Lillywhite hadn't been head of Mercury, would Darius have paid more attention to what the licence was all about - distribution and promotion - and how decisions there could affect him far more than any made in the studio. IMHO opinion he "was blinded by the light" of his hero, Steve. Edited July 22, 200717 yr by Baytree
July 22, 200717 yr At least the Mt things are letting him develope and increase in confidence. It gives us acces to see how he's doing while he's geing ready to release the new tracks
July 23, 200717 yr Quote baytree - For this 3rd album, I'd actually prefer a low key launch on his own label, without businessmen coming up with "campaigns". Let the story be the music. Yes but in order for the story to be the music it has to get heard and in view of the non airplay for live twice and for gareth will it happen.
July 23, 200717 yr He may as well resign himself to the fact that no matter how much money is thrown at airplay and no matter how good the song is, unless he's with S/BMG, he can forget about airplay. One large group dominates radio airplay and they have steadfastly refused to playlist his records for 4 years.
