I'd hate it if Darius went down the Jazz route. I'm not at all keen on jazz. I'd buy the album but would be disappointed. I'd much rather listen to songs like Save Love. With DIY it was as if he was trying to please his father. He is touchy about the song because it is about Natasha.

I too think this jazz revival is a phase, and most of the Jazz is covers. I dislike Jazz, the songs I have heard on Parkinsons radio show that were jazz were horrendous..although they made me realise how well darius had done that genre!! I thought some of the lyrics in DIY were contrived, but..some fo the lyrics I heard were horrendous!!

swing I can live with, I am sure Darius could write thsoe genres well, but I prefer his classic melodies, nore naturel, genre-less songs that seem to be more ad hoc and from the heart.

I think it would be a mistake to write jazz because that is around at the moment..I mean, where is Jamie Cullum..the songs that are still played after years are the classic ballad types that darius writes so well, as Preston says, strong melodies, hooks, lyrics that convey a true feeling or thought ..well structured songs..that dont really fall into one particular fashion.

Darius does seem to totally ignore any criticism of DIY, rather like he did GITM.

IMHO the jazz/swing thing is passe now and to go down that route alone would be a major miscalculation and not one the present fanbase would welcome wholeheartedly.

How many people have told him they dislike that track? Even people I know have disliked it from the start never say that to him as they know he wont like it. There isn't much critism that has reached him.

I liked it OK to start with. But I didn't like it nearly as much as Secret Song which was tied to it like a Siamese twin. irrationally perhaps I started to dislike it because I couldn't programme out DIY without leaving out Secret Song too.

It irritated me too that Darius almost promoted DIY as much as Live Twice although I felt he'd have been better promoting e.g. Only You or Better Man. I felt they were lost opportunities because he wasn't appearing on the kind of programmes where people might have been drawn to the style.

It was never going to sell the album as it was just so foreign to the other tracks on there.

I have to agree there, but he wrote it for his dad, and I suppose as the album was for his dad - I too get annyed that I can't get to Secret song until DIY and then 6 minutes.the boy likes to make you wait doesnt he...
I thought it was around the same lenth - if you don't count the empty tracks before the accoustic 'Gotta Know Tonight'
How do you or we get it across to him that we arent keen on jazz, post that opinion on Darius music? or is it too late. I think eactly the same as Pretty in pinks post, too many have done it and come and gone.

It depends what he calls jazz. I wouldn't define Norah Jones as jazz.

I was talking about the gap form the end of the last song to the hidden track, not the length of the song.

I am not ever likely to meet him meg, quite happy looking from afar. What he does with the next album will be his decision anyway.
You see that's why he should showcase a few of the new songs at gigs when the album's more or less ready part from all the design, business and promotion stuff.
I mean before it's set in stone. He swopped tracks on Live Twice long after HMV had run the tracklisting for Kinda Love.
I didn't know that.. I knew about a few things going on and the remixing but didn't know HMV has a diffeent track listing. What changed BT?
