McCartney wrote some of the most timeless classics ever, McCartney played instruments, McCartney had a successful career despite not being able to read music, McCartney was a successful guitarist despite playing the guitar left handed

Rihanna is manufactured in a studio, plays no instruments and MIMES

Comparing the 2 of them is like comparing Shergar with a Blackpool seaside donkey

I dont recall comparing them and if i did, sorry, but Rihanna doesnt mime. Lol. She may not write her own stuff, play instruments, but she CAN sing in tune and with emotion.

Yeah my mistake there lol was confusing her with Fergie who was miming at the recent Earth Aid concert or whatever it was called

Rihanna :D Christ - HOW camp. I thought only teeny girls idolised slush like Rihanna. It's bargain-bin r'n'b-lite for kids. That's it - the total sum of its existence - it's not deep, it certainly aint meaningful - and it's offensively bland.

Umbrella is absolutely the most dreadful number one since Crazy Frog.

I am rather perplexed that this poster seems to "detest" McCartney - yet Live And Let Die is "one of my favourite ever songs"?

How fickle youth is, eh?

Forgetting the true facts that the Beatles are the biggest selling act of all-time with over 1.1 billion & Paul's post Beatles career was the 11th biggest selling act of the 20th Century... forgetting that Paul's songs have between them spent a total of over 31.5 years in the UK singles chart & that he has had more #1s singles & albums in BOTH the UK & USA charts, that his composition Yesterday is the most covered song of all time & Hey Jude was the biggest selling single in the USA in the 1960s, etc, etc, etc..

Lets talk about Paul v Heather as human beings......because this is where I'm offended by Jark's complete ignorance so using scenarios that you can understand:

Paul had one of the most successful marriages in showbiz. He married New York divorcee & photographer in 1969 (which did not go down well with the Beatles fanbase, the press & the public at that time, because they felt he should have married his long-time girlfriend actress and much more esthetically pleasing Jane Asher (Prince Charles = another Camilla v "Saint" Diana scenario)).

Then he compounded things by publicly announcing that the Beatles had broken up (although like Mel C with the Spice Girls) he was the one doing the most to keep them going and together when John had become a heroin addicted passenger in the band & more interested in Yoko Ono from late 1968.

Then he made two demoish quality albums at the time McCartney & Ram that were slaughtered by the critics & former Beatles whom he was in litigation with at the time, even though now both albums are hailed as classics because of their homespun quality (Paul played all the instruments on the albums as well as writing the material but it featured his wife Linda on backing vocals & (dodgy) keyboards) & charm championed by the likes of Damon Albarn, Beck, Darren Gough (Badly Drawn Boy) & especially the critics darlings of today the White Stripes.

However, Paul's marriage to Linda lasted 28 years until she died of cancer in 1997 and had 4 children Heather, Mary, Stella & James. It is of utmost credit to Paul & Linda that their children grew up relatively normally & did not turn into famous offspring brats like Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, Lily Allen, Peaches Geldof, etc. A major part of that was due to their schooling in Comprehensive Schools rather than privileged public schools.

Despite their father being worth £800 million+, please note of their children that they have made a living for themselves in their own right:

Heather: a prominent potter and designer, with exhibitions in New York City, Phoenix, Tokyo, Paris and Sydney, and has been described by Wedgewood in 1999 as "one of Britain's most exciting new talents."

Mary: has followed her mum to become a successful photographer & video director. She has had commissions to photograph the Prime Minister Tony Blair & his family, the Queen, Live8 & the Royal Ballet amongst her portfolio. She has directed videos including Texas "Say What You Want", Melanie C "First Day Of My Life" & The Feeling "Fill My Little World".

Stella: THE famous fashion designer of Chloé, Gucci, CARE & H&M. She designed all the clothes for Madonna's 2004 Re-Invention Tour.

James: the lowest profile of the siblings. He is a successful sculpturist and a bit of a guitarist & drummer. He is said to be working on a music project with Crowded House's Neil Finn's son Liam.

Despite being in the public eye for over 40 years there has not been any stories of Paul mistreating his wife Linda until the allegations made by Heather Mills as part of the divorce proceedings.

Do you seriously think in the age of "build them up for hero worship, then knock them back down again" by the British media that there would have been one or two allegations made by former band members, or roadies, road managers, etc of Paul McCartney's Wings in the last 30+ years?

In fact the day after the allegations was made by Heather, the key third member of Wings Denny Laine spoke out vehemently claiming that having spent over a decade travelling & touring, living & recording with the McCartney's that he had seen nothing of the sort. The worst he had seen was the McCartney's rowing with each other. What makes his comments far more credible is that he fell out with Paul after Paul disbanded Wings in 1981 after the death of John Lennon made Paul (understandably) not want to tour anymore. Denny also descended into alcoholism & filed for bankruptcy including selling all his songwriting publishing to Paul's MPL company for a generous amount (according to monetary analysts at the time). He also sold a not very nice kiss & tell about the McCartney's to a Sunday newspaper in the late 1980s "Paul's an image obsessed control freak" and had written a not very nice song about Paul "Japanese Tears" in 1982.

Even Paul's former publicist Geoff Baker whom Paul sacked in 2004 after 15 years service due to alcoholism also backed up the former Beatle. Calling the allegations "vicious lies from a fantasist out of touch with reality".

Now lets look at Heather Mills:

Mills's early life was turbulent. A few months after she was born, she moved to Washington, then in County Durham. Her mother left home when she was nine, leaving Mills and her siblings in the care of an abusive father. When her father went to prison, she moved to London to live with her mother. As a teenager she ran away from home and found herself homeless.

As a child her favourite author was Catherine Cookson. Catherine was famous as Britain's most widely read novelist, while remaining a relatively low-profile figure in the world of celebrity writers. Her books were inspired by her deprived youth in North East England, the setting for her novels. With the usual plot setting being a poor female heroine being hard done by a rich/upper class male/s.

Having tried several jobs, she began a career in modeling and in 1988, while aged twenty, she took part in a photoshoot with a male model with whom she performed simulated sexual acts. The photos were published in a book entitled Die Freuden der Liebe (The Joys of Love). An American edition was published in the same year with the title Sex Games. The male model has stated the book project was presented to him as a sex manual, not pornography.

In August 1993, she was hit by a police motorcycle while crossing the road near London's Kensington Palace; her injuries included crushed ribs and a punctured lung. She needed a metal plate put into her pelvis and also the amputation of her left leg below the knee. Mills has a prosthetic leg, notably taking it off and showing it to USA talk show host Larry King during his interview with her in October 2002. While in hospital, she let reporters into her hospital room and sold her story (not exactly the first thing I would do).

Heather Mills has been written about in several publications for alleged embellishments to her life story. For example, the journalist Heather Mills of Private Eye magazine has accused Mills of impersonating her for over a year in the late 90s taking credit for being the journalist at events.

While she was engaged to be married to Chris Terrill in 2000, a film maker, she met Sir Paul and abandoned her fiancé only days before the wedding.

Mills is an activist for several causes, particularly against the use of landmines, vegetarianism, and animal rights. In 2003 the Open University of the United Kingdom awarded her for this an honorary degree. Websites under control by Heather Mills describe this misleadingly as an "Open University Doctorate".

Articles have also questioned the effectiveness of her charitable work in the Balkans, and she has also come under criticism from disabled people claiming she presumes to speak on their behalf.

In 2006 The Sun, which regularly refers to her as "Mucca" (a play on Paul's nickname "Macca"), has responded to threat to sue by asking her to "tick the boxes" on a series of allegations the paper has made about the former model stating "It is not clear what exactly she plans to sue us about." The paper then asks: "Come on Heather, what exactly did we get wrong? Is it that you're a ..." Underneath the open question, the Sun lists six allegations about the former model, with a blank box beside each one. The words beside the boxes read: "Hooker, Liar, Porn Star, Fantasist, Trouble Maker, Shoplifter".

In March 2007, British police warned Heather Mills about using the emergency phone number '999' too often. They are quoted as saying they are having to spend a disproportionate amount of time on one particular person. Kevin Moore, the Chief Superintendent of Sussex Police, said that Mills McCartney runs "the risk of being treated as the little boy who cried wolf." Mills says that "I didn't waste police time - they encouraged me to use them when I was being harassed." The BBC report that "A spokesman for Lady McCartney said she was nervous after getting death threats and being followed at night." Moore said that "We do have to respond to a disproportionate high volume of calls from Heather Mills McCartney because of the situations she finds herself in, and this is regrettable as it takes officers away from other policing matters."

Now Paul might have been a wife beater (like Ringo & John), but on balance I think there is pretty strong evidence to suggest otherwise, especially with Heather Mills dodgy past before she met the ex-Beatle.

I also find your comments with regards to wishing Paul's death offensive, especially baring in mind what happened to his former partner in crime John Lennon on December 8th, 1980. The single most shocking and senseless event in the history of popular music.

Still I can't be too surprised, after all in 2001 Radio 1's Sarah Cox sent then breakfast show newsreader Mark Chapman to interview Paul McCartney because they thought it would be funny. Paul understandably boycotted the interview.

Also in June 2006 Lily Allen posted on her MySpace that the wrong Beatle had been murdered & voiced support for Heather Mills in the divorce. Her MySpace page was understandably attacked and taken offline for two days. When it is was back up that message about Paul had been removed.

Lastly getting back to music sales: After six weeks in the USA Paul's critically acclaimed Memory Almost Full has sold 447,519 compared to Rihanna's Good Girl Gone Bad 420,156. Paul McCartney has been going strong for over 43 years, will Rihanna still be going strong in 43 months......

You should be a journalist :o :o :o you are well good at writing stuff

I am against domestic violence and think it is a vile thing to do but if Macca ever did lay a finger on that vile creature during their marriage I would not blame him it must be worse than hell living with IT

i think that post effectively closes this thread... i cant see where any further debate can come from it as TIP has conclusively sumed it all up :)

thisispop should be a barrister! What a summing up that was.

One thing, though.... a good friend of mine was at the London College of Fashion (or whatever it's called), and was in Stella McCartney's class.

He said her coursework was consistently awful... but because of who she was, all the lecturers fawned over her... and gave her far more help than they should have.

She frequently missed vital deadlines, didn't bother showing up.... and was generally a right royal pain in the arse, so much so that in the end, she was shunned by her fellow course members for her big "I am" attitude, laziness and the general feeling was she shouldn't even have been on the course in the first place, and that it was becoming increasingly obvious that her place at the College had been 'secured'.

For her final catwalk show, the show that would make up the main bulk of her final markings...... she shunned the use of the models offered to the students (all professional), and used her name to get fricking SUPERMODELS in to parade her clothes..... Kate Moss among them.

Naturally, her fellow course members were aghast - this was simply not the done thing. To add insult to injury, she demanded front row seats for her parents, whilst all the other parents were sat at the back.... and invited the world's press to the event, thus overshadowing everyone else's (apparently far better) achievements. All her lecturers were also invited to a champagne-drenched dinnerparty at the McCartney's home (I think Linda McCartney was ill at that time, too).

The result? She not only passed - she passed with distinction.

As I have never actually met either party i do not feel qualified to comment on either person.

But divorce laws are transparent ...... and I would expect anyone with even a modest amount of money marrying a much younger person would take adequate provision.

"buyer beware" seems to fit here

Rihanna :D Christ - HOW camp. I thought only teeny girls idolised slush like Rihanna. It's bargain-bin r'n'b-lite for kids.

I think you need to stop the personal attacks.

I think you need to stop the personal attacks.

Rihanna IS camp - extremely.... personal attack? Eh? She fits into the girlie pop niche occupied by Fergie, Girls Aloud, Mutya, Anastasia.... it's EXTREMELY camp.

I think someone's a bit overly touchy about any reference to 'camp'.

Don't you? ;)

Brilliantly put TiP - on of the best posts we've had on this Forum... EVER... I notice that young Jarky boy hasn't even attempted a reply to it as yet.... Not that he really could, because there really is nothing here you can possibly argue against...

The facts are that there is NO evidence whatsoever that Macca is a wife beater and given the way the Press has crucified plenty of other celebs based upon little or no hard evidence of wrong-doings, I very much doubt they would stop at having a go at Macca if there was some smoke there..... No, the press saw through Heather Mills for the lying little chancer she is, thank fukk, and didn't believe her bullsh!t for a minute....

Don't you? ;)

Oh just shut up. She's no more camp than any one else out there - Madonna, Kylie, etc - and you're on bloody Buzzjack, where these 'camp artists' are a lot of the posters' favourites! You seem to take the view that there's nothing at all credible about any youngish female singers

Oh whatever - you're just constantly out to get me Grimly, prove me wrong or whatever. Im not gonna lose sleep if everyone in this thread disagrees with me becuase it is just an internet forum after all - but i've dropped my argument now, you hardly need to keep bringing it back up.

No mate, YOU made the mistake of spouting off a lot of uninformed bullsh!t, dont you DARE try to turn it back on us.... You've only "dropped the argument" because the likes of me, TiP, Craig and Rob flamed you and came up with a REAL argument and actual INFORMED FACTS that you have no sodding answer to.... In short - you're running off with your tail between your legs because your whole "argument" was flimsy, ill-considered and wholly without any foundation.....

Balls. What I said was none of you have any kind of proof that 'Mucca' is a gold-digger! So she used to do porn? That hardly makes her a guaranteed gold-digger. I know Im young but I dont think its too naive of me to say that there was perhaps just good old love in that marriage and like many in went wrong! Just because Macca is a musical legend or Mucca used to be a pornstar, it doesnt mean he is a saint or she a b!tch. You were all making uninformed accusations against Heather too.

He's not saying there's nothing credible about any youngish female singers at all mate.

And there's a difference between "Camp" and just plain bloody Naff.... Morrissey is "camp", Neil Hannon and Jarvis Cocker can be very "camp" when they want to be as well.... The difference is, these acts manage to use things like "irony", "satire" and a very highly developed sense of wit and intelligence in their songwriting.... "Campness" should NEVER be seen as an excuse for just churning out a load of fukkin' third rate cheese.... I suggest you investigate the works of Quentin Crisp or Oscar Wilde to discern the true meaning of "campness"......

Well you see the music I like as 'third rate cheese', I dont particularly like much of your taste either, but what I dont get is how you can call the music of artists like Amerie who produces her own albums, writes the songs, sings with emotion etc 'third rate cheese' - it may not be your taste but it is good.

She was quoted as saying that she wanted over £100 million quid out of the settlement mate.... If that aint a "gold-digger" then I dunno what the fukk is.... As it is, £70 Million????? Earned it, did she???? Did she contribute a single DAMN THING to the marriage and to Macca's career to justify such a huge pay-out, I mean, really????? Linda McCartney used to play keyboards in Macca's backing band at one point, what the fukk did Heather Mills contribute...????

Did she contribute a single DAMN THING to the marriage

Who are you or me to decide that?! The fact is that NO-ONE knows what went on behind closed doors!

You could give a fukkin' monkey a computer and a songwriting programme and it would probably manage to churn out an album at least to the musical standard of Amerie's simplistic Kiddie-Rave-by-numbers...... Man, I was at REAL, hard-core ILLEGAL raves when you were still swimming in yer daddy's nut sack.... :P Why dont you actually go out on You Tube and investigate stuff like KLF, LFO, The Prodigy, The Shamen, Derrick May, A Guy Called Gerald, Carl Craig, Giorgio Moroder, Orbital, FSOL, etc, etc and come back when you're a bit more well informed....? You'll actually discover that Dance/Techno Music had a bit more BALLS back then, even the stuff that got in the charts......
