July 22, 200717 yr Chartifacts (Thanks to Gavin Ryan) Fergie remains at No.1 for a second week on the Australian charts with her fourth solo single "Big Girls Don't Cry". It also helps pull her album up the charts, as "The Duchess" climbs from No.6 to No.3 this week, now at it's highest peak, as it has done so for the past three weeks (new highest peaks that is). NEW PEAKS: Several songs make a new highest peak placing this week, including "Dear Mr. President" by Pink (No.5), "Don't Matter" by Akon (No.9) and "Don't Miss You" by Amy Pearson (No.19), whilst the biggest climber within the Top 50 is the former No.1 club song (No.2 this week), "NYC Beat" by Armand Van Helden which jumps up from No.45 to No.36. DOUBLE UP: There are nine acts in the Top 50 this week who have two or more hits, Fergie (1 & 20), Good Charlotte (4 & 35), Pink (5 & 17), Fall Out Boy (6 & 38), Akon (9 & 31), Gwen Stefani (11 & 31), Justin Timberlake (12, 37 & 46), Sneaky Sound System (15 & 48) and Nelly Furtado (21 & 43). This should increase in the next couple of weeks, as Christina Aguilera and Avril Lavigne both have new tracks released on the 28th of July. There is only one new entry to the Top 50, and it comes in at No.50. It's by current promo-tourist and New Yorker, Regina Spektor, with "Fidelity". This is her first chart entry on the Australian charts, and the track is taken from her fourth album, "Begin to Hope" which entered the album charts last week at No.45, and this week makes the biggest leap within the Top 50 Albums, climbing up to No.29. Michael Buble has again jumped back to No.1 with "Call Me Irresponsible", now achieving it's fifth non-consecutive week at the top. The last time that a male solo act's album went back to the top for a third time was last April, when James Blunt's "Back to Bedlam" returned for a third run at the top, eventually accumulating 12 weeks at the top. The highest new entry is at No.5, and it's the latest album for country artist Lee Kernaghan, "Spirit of the Bush". The lead single from the album hit No.11 three weeks ago, and drops out of the Top 50 this week, but he at least replaces himself on the charts with this his first ever Top 10 album, having previously climbed as high as the Top 15 with his 2002 album "Electric Rodeo". There is also another Australian country singer who enters the charts this week, Troy Cassar-Daly, who's "Born to Survive: The Best of" debuts at No.25. The first new studio album from The Smashing Pumpkins in 7 years debuts at No.7 this week, entitled "Zeitgeist". Their last studio album was 2000's "Machina" which reached the Top 5, and the followed that up in 2001 with their "(Rotten Apples) Greatest Hits" collection which hit the lower half of the Top 10. The group has climbed to the No.1 spot in the past, with "Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness" (Nov 95, 2 weeks at No.1) and "Adore" (June 98, 1 week).
