Is it just me that think these three songs are wasted gems from her english language album? I think all three could have done really well, along with pure intuition which isn't on the album... do you think shakira should release 2 of them before her LONNNNNG break? I'd really like her to :( i mean fo1 had so many singles :( I know Timor is also great but that would never be a single.

Thoughts?

Oh yes, I agree especially with the former too.

Animal City was just one of the best musically and lyrically-composed songs I have heard in English from her, better even, heaven forbid, than Illegal, which was just AWFUL. :puke2: I never supported it, hated the video, really hated everything about it, even that stupid guitar. -_-

Coming off of of possible her golden peak that was OF1, OF2 was just an awful period in Shakira's music career, I believe one of the lowest time, both musically and commercially. -_- At least those songs might have done it a bit more justice, but alas, it wasn't to be.

costume makes the clown is just a wonderful, emotive but a complicated song we don't know exactly what she is singing about and who she is singing too, the first 2 lines are intriging showing us that she gets things wrong she makes mistakes and doesn't want to let "who" down? the fans? her lover? the media? great song great production. alot of shakira fans are saying costume is one of their faves its got depth so it keeps your attention

animal city is one of absolute favourites from OF2 should have been the third single, the remix sounded so good!! the track is just so different and distinctive, like the subject matter its not about love like the typical pop song, it makes you think and the thunderous production with the latin sounds the song is quirky very shakira but the question is would radio play it?

we know how awful radio 1 is in the way they treated shakira last summer so this kind of song has no chance of being played on radio. but what shakira showed last year is that she can have a massive hit without radio support or even promo support i hope sony see how strong she is and is popular with the public so why not take risks and release radio unfriendly songs?

i'm not a big fan of "hey you" maybe cause i like alot of production on her tracks like fusion elements so "hey you" is too simplistic for me

Yeah I love them all      but I guess she is not releasing anything else.
I definitely agree strongly on 'Costume Makes The Clown' and 'Animal City' (not that shoddy radio edit though, that ruined it and stripped it of all it's goodness). Maybe 'Dreams For Plans' too.

i was listening to CMTC trying to figure it out....this isn't about antonio because some lines don't make sense when applied to him he knows her much better than the person she is singing to in this track. i think this is about her professional relathionship with her ex manager freddy demann who she clashed with as seen in the documentry for tour of the mongoose dvd. it would make snese she would write about this real life experience the manager & artist relationship she had with him. he didn't seem to understand her. what do you think? could it be about feddy demann?

@ Perfecto: I always thought it could be about that, but I also had a feeling it could be directed at the media who label her along the same lines as other popstars and stereotype her. I guess we'll never know though

This era could have been so amazing; she had the right lookd, the right songs, but it just didn't happen. the whole OF2 album is under-rated imo, and considering the fact only one original single was released and promoted properly [Don't Bother] it feels kind of like Shakira was almost afraid to take any risks after it underperformed. I don't know about anyone else, but it felt as if the Shakira that used to be, just isn't the same musician she once was..

shakira did mess with sony by including uncommercial and not very radio friendly tracks on OF2 but she has that creative control. she is on a roll too 4 huge albums in a row so the formula is working. i wonder how she feels about some of her uncommercial tracks not get released maybe she doesn't focus on singles its all about the albums for her she may think thats what the fans appreciate most too.

the good news is this era has been successful for her even though it wasn't as slick as it could have been it does suck that we were denied the 4th release from OF2. the next album may get 4 or 5 releases and if shakira repeats the pattern again of only putting only 1 hip shaker per album then we will get other kind of songs released too. i bet next era we will see the hip shaker release like OA, WW, LT & HDL, the downtempo song like UYC "No" & "illegal" the other 2 or 3 releases can be risky uncommercial tracks. i think she will push for them!

I think the whole OF2 era pissed Shakira off. It flopped and she had to release HDL...I would really like to know Shakira's true feelings on this. It all got really messy and Shakira got quite a lot of stick from her fans. If you notice, rather than promote OF2 after HDL, she went back to promoting FO1, which I think Shakira is more proud of and happy with because she released it with no problems. I think she thought "if that's what I have to do for an English success, they're not getting anymore. The record company have their money, they're not getting anymore."

sorry essay alert!! :coffee: it started out as a paragraph and but it blew up

i don't see it that way, she had control over the first single and she pushed for "don't bother" but in sony's eyes it wasn't like WW or LT so they said "look shakira we did what you wanted for the first single but now lets go for the hip shaker HDL". they told her "you gave us 1 hip shaker for DELL, another one in LS and another in FO1". but whats important is that all these uptempo fusion tracks are all very different from each other, shakira didn't give them another WW or LT cause HDL is nothing like them musically & lyrically.

i think what really matters to shakira is wanting control over the album rather than singles. its all about the album for her. the singles are about attracting buyers to buy her eclectic album and boy were they in for a surprise when they discovered OF2 was uncommercial sounding that HDL was the exception and not the rule.

did she really do any promo for FO1 after HDL? LP was released cause she was about to tour or was touring south america i forgotten her schedule  LDLI was a gift it wasn't fully released, sony did nothing to support it. also LDLI was filmed only cause i think the priority was on PI which could on the tour dvd as a bonus. its use is to help promote the DVD. i think so it makes sense, why not film PI while filing LDLI? it seems crazy and a miss oportunity if they didn't surely sony aren't that stupid!!??

the mistake sony made was waiting 8 months with the follow up to HDL. they could have gone with "illegal" after 4 months and then squeeze in animal city at the time of "illegal" actual release. timing is a factor and to blame. also shakira seemed to have had negotiated with sony maybe in her contract that they don't make her do promo work when she is getting ready to tour and when she is touring. sony should have moved faster before she started touring but then you could say why should they if the monster HDL is still selling so much and doing the job of 2 huge singles. they met their targets with both albums, releasing a 4th single wasn't really needed, it would eat into their massive profits.

i think sony and shakira will learn from this era the 2 part album crossover hasn't been done before, this is virgin ground both will learn from it and the next era will be slicker i'm sure!
