Posted March 11, 200619 yr I think it was reported on CC last month sometime, as it is quite old news but I thought I'd post in here anyway... NBC has picked up the format rights to the Eurovision song contest with a view to making a US "version", Variety said at the weekend. The annual battle of country versus country will become a battle of state versus state in the American show, which is expected to run over several weeks. Original songs will remain at the centre of the competition, however, with each of the 50 states selecting a band or singer to represent them on a national stage. "You'll have this unbelievable multicultural, regional flavour to the whole show," enthused producer Ben Silverman. "Imagine the Montana cowboy, the Detroit Motown star, the New Jersey alt band and the Tennessee crooner all going up against one another." Similar to FOX's American Idol, NBC is planning a huge cross-platform push for the show, including interaction via SMS and the web. "We want to build a community before the show even gets on the air," added Silverman. "There's a way to create a grassroots local thing that can then explode on a national scale once it comes to TV." The show is expected to air this autumn in the US. What does everyone think? I think it's a huge flop and should be left to us Europeans personally! From Digital Spy.
March 11, 200619 yr It will flop in America. Eurovision is an insane, eccentric show full of crazy songs and wierd people. America has its fair share of wierdos, but it will try too hard to be cool and churn out the usual hip hop, urban rubbish. -_-
July 27, 200816 yr This hasn't happened has it? EDIT: Which is a good thing, their version wouldn't be horrific pop it would be fifty x Chris Brown :P Edited July 27, 200816 yr by nickthenoodle
July 28, 200816 yr This isn't going to happen because some man sued NBC. I would quite like it actually - states might not vote for one another so loyally.
July 29, 200816 yr The only good thing about the contest would be the states that have the native Indians in them. Their music is lovely, and it would be great if they got some airtime because they are usually forgotten about.
August 14, 200816 yr I think it flopped anyway or has yet to be produced, so there's little to worry about
August 14, 200816 yr Two bits to note: 1 - "Monday, February 13 2006" 2 - "The show is expected to air this autumn in the US." Also note that it's called "World Vision", although only the states of America would be able to enter. Typical of the Yanks, that. Edited August 14, 200816 yr by DitzyNizzy
August 17, 200816 yr It'll be hideous... but with the right generic reality show formula which they use o-so-often in the states it could be a hit over there. ITV2 have there schedule for next year sorted now then ;)
August 18, 200816 yr It'll be hideous... but with the right generic reality show formula which they use o-so-often in the states it could be a hit over there. ITV2 have there schedule for next year sorted now then ;) (Mind you, they've already got Dancing On Ice: Defrosted (or whatever its called)*, Britain's Got More Talent and the Xtra Factor to put in there as well.) * - I don't actually know if there's a spin-off of DOI, but it wouldn't surprise me if there is one.
