Interview with Nigel Lithgoe

 

Darius astounded the Popstars judge with his extraordinary rendition of Britney Spears Baby one more time, only to disappear in shame and re-emerge on Pop Idol, coming third and scoring a number one with Colourblind. Since then , he has gone on to star in Chicago in the West End and is now dating the Canadian actress, Natasha Henstridge. How in the world one wonders, did he manage all that?

 

"Well, it's great isn't it? says Nigel. "I mean, he got rid of that silly goatee beard that made made him look like Acker Bilk's lovechild and he's done brilliantly. And now he's going out with Natasha and they are the most sickeningly beautiful couple you've ever seen. We've all been out for dinner here a couple of times, and they're just gorgeous together"

 

"Apparently, they were standing on opposite sides of Sunset Boulevard when they clapped eyes on each other and just floated away on a cloud"

 

Does she know about Popstars?

 

" What?" says Nigel. " Do you think I wouldn't have told her already? I've done the whole routine:"Can you feel the love in the room?" routine and I've done impressions for her" heren ;'D

The fact that Nigel admits that Darius 'has done brilliantly' is wonderful to read!! :cheer:

I knew I would buy the wrong papers today as usual. That is lovely to read. I seem to remember an american journalist saying they were the best looking couple at the oscars party, seems they were right. It s nice to see that he is still in touch with Nigel and as nigel is a producer on american idol maybe D is still in touch with SC.

Didn't Darius say that Natasha and Terri were good friends and that they had been out to dinner with Simon?

I would'nt be surprised that when Nigel said that 'they had all been out to dinner', Simon and Terri were included. I would love to be a fly on the wall!! :dance:

Yes Darius did say that Natasha and Terri were friends so you are probably right about them being included. I remember Simon saying in his book that Darius had the most charisma and he would be the one who he would go out to dinner with.

As Popstars judge and a man with great experience in the entertainment business, Nigel knew that Darius had charisma and talent and long after Paul Adams had said that in his opinion Darius was a solo artist and wouldn't fit into a 5 piece group ( he thoughtfully qualified it by adding nor a hundred piece one), Nigel was reluctant to let Darius go and he was arguing that Darius had an exceptional voice in the deliberatons after HMBOMT.

 

My impression was that the two couples , SC and Terri and Natasha and D, actually entertain each other, not just go out to dinner.

 

My brother picked up their Daily Mail yesterday but forgot to lift a Weekend mag, so when I was shopping I bought a Daily mail and gave him the mag and I just kept the paper. Trust me!

it is good to read, I would love to be a fly on the wall, as said Nigel and Simon had a lot of time for Darius. Simon I recall really liked him - I can actually imagine them getting on, Darius has the guts and self confidence not to be a yes man as he already showed by turning sc down after PI, I would imagine that owuld have earnt him a lot of respect from SC - hope he is networking!

I had a look at it tonight. There's no picture of Darius. Just one of Nigel , one of Nigel and his wife and one of Nigel with 3 of Hearsay - Kym, Noel and Myleene.

 

They asked Nigel if he was still in contact with anyone from Popstars and he said he'd spoken to Liberty X and he'd seen Darius.

 

The Mail describes Nigel as chuckling when he talks about telling Natasha all about Popstars.

I'd love to see Nigel doing impressions of Popstars Darius.Can you imagine the glee?

 

Good job Darius finds his Popstars alter ego amusing too and he'd already confessed all to Natasha anyway.

I wonder why he did this particular performance? Do you think his subconscience kicked in and stopped him from doing something he didn't want to do?

because the judges has already said to someone who followed D, that singing his own song would count against him. The judges had told him that this was his last chance and he had to show his complete vocal range, and the judges had said how important movement within the song was.

 

It made my toes curl but, he did exactly what the judges indicated that he needed to do. It's a shame at 19 he wasn't savvy enough to know he was being set up.

Unless clever editing has been used(and I am well aware that could be the case) wasn't it D's choice to sing an extra song? That was how it was portrayed on the show anyway.

I think it probably all worked out for the best anyway. I probably wouldn't be such a massive fan of his if he had made the band.

I don't really think he was ever going to get in the band. He had the best voice but, it'd have been Darius and Hear'say. They couldn't have let him leave the show unscathed either as he'd have completely eclipsed them.

Yes, I know what you mean, but they did show the farewell song, and that's what got me so.....
