Led Zeppelin set to reunite

27 July 2007 - 14:38:29

The surviving members of Led Zeppelin look finally set to reunite after years of speculation as Warner readies a new 24-track best of album by the British rock group.

Music Week understands that discussions are taking place between Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones to tour under the Led Zeppelin name in 2008.

The band last toured in July 1980, just a couple of months before their drummer John Bonham died, aged 32, although the three remaining members have regrouped for several one-off sets, including playing Live Aid in 1985 and an Atlantic Records 40th anniversary concert at Madison Square Garden in New York in 1988. Plant and Page, under that billing, have extensively toured together since the band split up.

Unconfirmed reports indicate the group may perform at a proposed tribute concert to Atlantic Records co-founder Ahmet Ertegun in London this autumn, although Robert Plant has denied this.

Atlantic Records/Rhino Entertainment will release Mothership, a 24-track, two-CD collection featuring tracks from all eight of the band’s studio albums, on November 12, with tracks having been personally selected by Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, and John Paul Jones.

The news comes as guitarist Jimmy Page this week appeared in Glasgow Sheriff Court as a star witness to give evidence against a man charged with selling bootleg Led Zeppelin CDs.
