Kelly Clarkson gets the picture, finally.

There was no bucking the system, and no going against Clive Davis. Sources tell me that Clarkson has agreed, through her wise new manager Narvel Blackstock, to make a pop album for release in 2008 with songs selected by Davis and his team.

Clarkson's acquiescence comes at the end of a long melodrama concerning her current, turgid album "My December," which features a lot of ragged self-penned songs by Clarkson about a relationship gone sour.

Davis didn't like the album, considering it was the follow up to Clarkson's multimillion selling "Breakaway." But he released it, and Clarkson responded by dissing him and then apologizing earlier this week.

In the meantime, "My December" is sort of free-floating away now, and will probably sell a respectable 850,000 copies in the U.S. and maybe the same worldwide.

Clarkson gets points for trying out her chops as a songwriter, but demerits for not following anyone's advice, trying to take on the record industry's most astute executive maybe of all time and acting like a 25-year-old (which is, in fact, her age.)

The news about Clarkson's next move came Thursday during the annual UJA Federation lunch at which Davis was honored. Everyone in the biz was there - the room was so packed that there was little space between the tables for waiters to maneuver or for good schmoozing.

The result was a $1 million-plus take for the day. The money goes into the Music for Youth educational campaign which brings music to public schools.

Talk of Clarkson was abundant, but it was another "American Idol" player who made headlines at lunch. Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson performed two songs as a tribute to Davis: Barry Manilow's "Weekend in New England" and "One Moment in Time," a song that Whitney Houston made popular long ago.

Using the Hotel Pierre's crummy P.A. system and a badly scratched, barely tuned piano, Hudson gave a spectacular little show. If anyone doubted what she can do, that's over.

Hudson is a superstar in the making (in contrast to a Federation performance by Ruben Studdard a few years ago). Even Clarence Avant, the beloved record guy who once ran Motown, was impressed.

Davis's peeps were more than excited that Clarkson's situation had been resolved, they say. There are no hard feelings over "My December," but let's just say everyone's waiting for her January now.

well.... im kinda sad and happy at the same time.

Sad cos, My December is a fantastic album which people should open their mind to but Happy cos its gonna be nice to see the old pop/rock kelly again but i hope that she will still be able to be her own person and be herself rather than someone that Clive Davis wants her to be

I cant believe you believe this! A new album in 08 is not going to happen for starters, and MD is selling really well atm - there'd be no need for Kelly to revert to pop where she isn't controlling the music she makes.
you never know. it could be true. look at Beyonce. she recorded B'Day in 2 weeks. and Kelly might be trying to be the "bigger man" (or in her case woman) and letting down her guard. after all thats what Simon told her to do. i think thats it... or i might be dreaming...
I don't like this we're-gonna-pick-all-of-your-songs tone but I'm glad they finally made up. I prefer an album with a tune closer to Breakaway. January? Can't wait!

I'm not a fan of Kelly's but I feel she's been very badly let down and verbally slapped by Clive Davis, he was the one who very publicly, slagged Kelly's album off to the music industry and the media forcing Kelly to speak up for herself. It's a case of management and media pressure why Kelly's album hasn't done quite as well as it could have, but it's still getting very good sales imo. I wonder how it would have performed if Clive Davis had kept his big mouth shut or said that he liked the album?

I feel sorry for Kelly and I hope everything is ok with her.

I agree exactly with suggy, except the part about not liking her.

Her album is EXCELLENT, and although not all the songs are "radio friendly" she is an amazing talented songwriter and interprets each of her songs with pure emotion. Making her write and produce an album in barely 6 months is totally  and will flop more than MD.

What I simply can't understand is how the media are making out like My December is some hard rock album with no pop elements that the public will and do hate. It's barely a radical departure from the rock/pop of Breakaway  Just a little more edgy and mature!

I highly doubt this is true to be honest. Kelly has already stated she's begun writing for her 3rd album and that it had a country/rock tinge to it, which can be explained by the influence of new pal Reba McEntire, and her husband who is coincidently Kelly's new manager. She's always said that you should expect something different from each new album, so I cant see her reverting back to her old[er] sounds of the Breakaway era. Just my opinion though!

Thanks for posting never the less!
