I think you could specifically train people to be this particular type of teacher... Teachers were trained to be these scary authoritarian figures in the past, the old style could be brought back again...

Bringing back the old "Cross Country Run" in the wind and rain seems like a great idea... It's character building....

Yeah good point about being able to train them to be like that, they wouldn't have to be military at this place or whatever but people that are like a cross between Mr Bronson from Grange Hill, that bellowing Scottish guy in one of the Another Brick In The Wall songs and Gunnery Sergeant Hartmann

People like that are needed to put the fear of god into those that want to behave in a disorderly way at school

Ah, yeah, good old "Mr Bronson".... The sorts of teacher you're talking about here are the "old-skool" (pardon the pun...), the teachers you absolutely loathe, but by GOD you bloody respect them..... I've had teachers like that, absolutely hated them when they were teaching me, but looking back with the benefit of being an adult, I actually love them for the fact that they built up a bit of character in me - harsh, but fair, and they were absolutely dedicated 100% to us kids... We so need teachers like this in classrooms again....

I wanna share a little story... :o :

I had a french teacher, who's scared of kids. Yet she still teaches, she cant controll a class, even if we're/they're being quite reasonably well behaved, and she was to scared to dish out any punishments.

Now thats a massive change from Grimleys post to mine, the fact is, is that most teachers probally are scared of pupils.

We had one or two kinda meek teachers as well while I was at school, completely inept as teachers, didn't learn practically a damn thing in their classes.. The ones who are actually good, are the ones who know how to control a class and command respect.... The classes where I had teachers who were firm, but fair, were the classes I did well in...
