July 29, 200717 yr Chartifacts (Thanks to Gavin Ryan) Fergie's "Big Girl's Don't Cry" stays atop the Australian Singles charts for a third week, and it also helps drag her album up to the top of the Album Charts. With Fergie sitting at the top of both charts, "Big Girls Don't Cry" and "The Dutchess" become the 109th time that an act has occupied both the top spots, and actually the third time this year (something which didn't happen at all during 2006). The other two times this year was back in February (26th) with Hinder and in April (9th) for Silverchair. It's the first time in exactly two years since a female act has occupied both No.1's, back on the first week of August 2004 (2nd) was when Paulini held the top with "Angel Eyes" and her album "One Determined Heart", and it's kinda the second time that Fergie has been atop both charts, as back in June 2005 (6th) The Black Eyed Peas held the top spot for a week with "Don't Phunk With My Heart" and "Monkey Business". There are only two new entries this week, and both of them are second singles for male acts. The first comes in at No.6, and is "Love Today" for Mika. His first track "Grace Kelly" reached No.2 for 3 weeks from April 9th, 2007, and stayed in the Top 10 for 15 weeks, plus it too debuted at No.6. He is up to his third single in the UK, as "Big Girl" is at No.14 and climbing. The other male act is at No.11, in the form of 2006 Australian Idol winner Damien Leith. "22 Steps" falls ten places lower than his debuts single from December 2006 "Night of My Life" which stayed at No.1 for 4 weeks throughout the whole of December 2006. It's parent album "The Winner's Journey" was No.1 for five weeks, and Damien's new album "Where We Land" is due to be released August 18th. The single has not yet registered in the Top 40 of the Download Charts, so this figure for first week is most likely based on physical sales. As I mentioned above, Fergie's album "The Dutchess" has reached the No.1 spot on the album charts, 45 weeks after it initially debuted in the charts (25-Sept-2006). It has been climbing the charts the past few months (23-16-12-9-8-6-3-1) after "Big Girl's..." was played across the radio, and now she can claim her first solo No.1 album in Australia. "The Dutchess" is the 553rd No.1 album in Australian since 1965, and it's the first No.1 by a female act since Pink's "I'm Not Dead" hit No.1 for the second time back on June 4th. Fergie becomes the 69th Female Act to hit the top of our Album Charts, and also the 26th American Female Act to the top. "The Dutchess" is the 198th American Performed Album to hit the top, and Fergie is the 117th American Performer. Plus the work "Dutchess" has never been to the top of the charts before. It was a tussle for the top spot this week between Fergie, and the act who debut at No.2 with their highest placed album to date. Grinspoon's "Alibis and Other Lies" is the groups fifth studio album and fifth Top 10 album, plus their sixth to hit the charts. They were last on the charts back in November 2005 when their "Best of" compilation "Best in Show" reached No.12, and their last studio album was the September 2004 No.4 album "Thrills, Kills and Sunday Pills". The highest climbing single of the week is KissChasy's "Opinions Won't Keep You Warm at Night" (from 23 to No.14), and now their second album becomes their first Top 5. "Hymns for the Non Believer" debuts at No.5, ten places higher than their debut effort (No.15, Aug. 2005), "United Paper People". Coming in at No.25 is "Paper Walls" by Yellowcard, their second album, following up 2006's "Lights and Sounds" which reached No.6 in February of that year. Only the third album this decade for a man who used to put an album out every year, Prince's "Planet Earth" comes in at No.38. His two other's this decade were "Musicology" (No.15, May 2004) and "3121" (No.18, April 2006).
