August 4, 200717 yr So, it's perfectly okay for doctors to silently despise gays and single parents then....? I doubt it actually would matter if a person aired their views or not, if a Doctor felt this way about certain types of patients he or she had, it couldn't fail to affect or influence their work, regardless of whether they aired their views publically or not... Which brings me back to my original point - if we sack this guy, we have to sack the thousands of other doctors who hold similar old-fashioned sexist, homophobic and racist views, but dont make those views a matter of public record.... The problem with moral relativism is that nothing ever changes - it's a conservative act. Just because you can't catch ALL criminals, for example, doesn't mean you shouldn't prosecute those you DO catch. This GP is also untrustworthy - when confronted he tried to lie his way out of it and blame others (even his own family). Not a great "family" doctor, then. His sending this letter was an error of judgement. You are right that there must be other GPs like him, who are keeping their odious opinions to themselves, but surely that means they have more judgement? I think they would be less likely to let their closet bigotry affect their medical judgements - at least they are aware their opinions are not approved of. By 'coming out' as this GP has, he has declared his contempt for a number of his patients - he should be struck off, or at least suspended so he can consider his position.
