August 1, 200717 yr Author I thought this week would be a good time to start posting the videos for each track so that those unfortunates who haven't heard the songs have a chance. First up the current champion 8I6iLzj4bYE Donna Summer - I Feel Love and the challenger h0gnuKoy6GA Prince - When Doves Cry Edited August 1, 200717 yr by grebo69
August 1, 200717 yr without a shadow - Donna Summer. When Doves Cry is the track that signfies Prince becoming chart fodder to me.... his earlier stuff was 100% better... and a few of the later ones were much better than the uber-commercial Purple Rain period, too. Now if you'd chosen Sign O The Times or Little Red Corvette....
August 1, 200717 yr Donna Summer. The wrong Prince song - had it been Little Red Corvette, 1999, Purple Rain, Raspberry Beret, Kiss, Sign O' The Times, Alphabet Street then my vote would have been different.
August 1, 200717 yr Author without a shadow - Donna Summer. When Doves Cry is the track that signfies Prince becoming chart fodder to me.... his earlier stuff was 100% better... and a few of the later ones were much better than the uber-commercial Purple Rain period, too. Now if you'd chosen Sign O The Times or Little Red Corvette.... TBH I think that his earlier stuff wasn't a patch on his 1983-88 output. I really don't like things like Dirty Mind etc. I don't rate Purple rain as much as Parade or Sign o the Times but basically every single he released for about five years was a corker. I think Little Red Corvette and 1999 was just the start. I think very few artists could match a run of singles like this. Little Red Corvette 1999 When Doves Cry Purple Rain I Would Die 4 U Let's Go Crazy/Take Me With U Paisley Park Raspberry Beret Pop Life Kiss Mountains Girls and Boys Anotherloverholenyohead Sign O The Times If I Was Your Girlfriend U Got the Look I Could Never Take The Place of Your Man Alphabet Street Glam Slam I guess I was a bit of a Prince fan during the 80s coz I've got most of these on either 7" or 12" and if I didn't then I had them on albums. I would probably rate him as the most important artist of the decade along with The Smiths - with Depeche Mode the only other act of the 80s where I collected the singles as well. BTW thanks for closing the last soundclash. Edited August 1, 200717 yr by grebo69
August 1, 200717 yr I feel love was an amazing record when it was released in 1977. It's a landmark disco song & sounded so original at the time. I still love it to bits.
August 2, 200717 yr Definately Donna Summer. The genius of Giorgio Moroder and the great voice of Donna Summer - a brilliant combination. I have the full 8min 12 sec. version.
August 4, 200717 yr prince beyond any shadow of doubt, 'when doves cry' was his best ever and a superb track.
