Alex Turner teams up with old friend for new project

Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner and The Rascals' Miles Kane are set to record an album together later this month.

The pair became friends when Kane's first band The Little Flames supported Arctic Monkeys on their early tour.

Kane contributed guitar to Arctic Monkeys' second album 'Favourite Worst Nightmare' and has joined the Sheffield band live frequently this summer to play '505' with them, including at the weekend's Old Trafford gigs (July 28-29).

Now the pair are set to head to France to record an album together in mid-August.

"We're there for two weeks and we're going to try to get the majority of it done," Kane told NME.COM. "James Ford is producing it and is going to play drums, he's a really boss drummer. Me and Al will do all the bass and guitar and vocals, and try to the get the bulk of it done in two weeks. We're going to record it quite live to tape I think. Then whenever we've got weekends off at the same time we'd like to get some strings on it and probably do all that back home. That's the plan anyway."

The singer added that the pair were still trying to work out what their project will be called.

"We were thinking Turner & Kane but everyone says it doesn't sound too serious," he explained.

Kane is currently recording The Rascals debut EP in London - due out in October - with Blur and Elbow producer Ben Hiller.

He expects the pair's album to come out in the first half of 2008, after The Rascals have released their debut album.

"We want to have a bit of everything on there," said Kane of his own band's forthcoming album. "Some of the tunes do the same job, if you know what I mean, so we'll only have a couple of them on. So when we do it we will have everything."

This should be very interesting, and it's not too long to wait. :D I'm not sure how long it will be until the new Arctic Monkeys album though now, maybe late next year or early 2009?

its about music...so i suposse its something good...

even if i prefer Alex not to spare his talent with other projects n keep it for the arcrtics...with that band i think we have something special n i want that to stay only for the arctics...i know it sounds egoistic (n it really is) , but that s what i want...more arctics songs...if my comment makes any sense

It might be good there's a bigger gap for the album thoughm as it makes people appreciate the band more when they come back I think. This side project sounds very interesting though, but i'm not sure what to make of it, but if the final product is as good as the people involved with the whole thing then it should be good. ^_^

As if he wasn't busy enough coming up with concepts for videos, Miles has also been away recording an album with his mate and Arctic Monkeys frontman, Alex Turner. For most musicians, it would be a dream come true, but if Miles, the up-and- coming king of the nonchalant nod, is excited about it, he doesn’t let it show.

“We just went to this farm in France and recorded it all in two weeks,” says Miles, in a tone that sounds like he’s been to Asda for a bag of frozen peas.

“We did a bit of everything on it – singing, guitar bass. It’s kind of epic sounding, Walker-esque. We’re going to get an orchestra to put the strings on.

“We lived in this cottage next to the studio. We didn’t leave the whole time , but it was good to get so much work done so quickly and it was a really nice place.

“There were loads of animals outside; it was a proper farm and the fella who runs it used to cook our tea every night. You could ask for whatever you wanted in the morning and he’d go out and get everything and make it.”

But not everything fitted in with the HE Bates rural idyll.

“The beds had fleas,” says Miles. “Al and I shared a massive room with six little beds and they all had fleas. I moved beds every night but they still found me. I had loads of bites on my ankles and Al had none. I think maybe I’ve got sweet blood.”

I think this should be really good. :o

It has been revealed that Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner and The Rascals singer Miles Kane were joined by some rather unwelcome 'visitors' when they travelled to a farm in France to collaborate.

Miles Kane explained the pair were surprised to uncover an army of bedbugs when they settled down to the first night in their new home: "There were loads of animals outside - it was a proper farm and the fella who runs it used to cook our tea every night.

"Al [Turner] and I shared a massive room with six little beds," Kane told the Liverpool Echo, "and they all had fleas and bedbugs. I would move beds every night but they still found me.

"I had loads of bites on my ankles. Maybe I've got sweet blood," he joked.

As previously revealed on NME.COM, the duo are currently recording under the name 'Turner And Kane' with producer James Ford and an album should be due for release sometime in 2008, after The Rascals put out their debut album.

Alex Turner's side project record is due to be released next year, it has been revealed.

The Arctic Monkey is working on an album with James Ford, from Simian Mobile Disco, among other musicians.

Ford told BBC 6 Music about its progress following a recording session in Paris: "It was amazing, really quick and we had fun, played ping pong, ate cheese and drank red wine."

Ford is playing drums, bass and some keyboards. He explained several other artists were contributing: "We're doing some strings with a guy called Final Fantasy who does a lot of the Arcade Fire strings.

"The stuff we were really listening to was like Scott Walker and I think there are some really great songs on there.

"We'll probably finish it off towards the end of the year and it'll probably be out next year. But I can still listen to it and enjoy it, which at this stage in the album-making process is rare."

"In fact, frontman Miles Kane has even recorded a side-project album with Turner to be released in April next year."

"They were writing tunes on the road when we were touring together," remembers Mighall. "And then they thought, `Well, we may as well record them'. There's no point having an album lying about"

"It's not big guitar based tunes," he reveals of the project. "It's loads of intricate sounds and organs, more orchestral and epic. It's a lovely little album. It's not as harsh

Looks like it'll be out in April then! :D

-Turner is a Monkey

-Kane's a Rascal.

-Ford produces, and is apparently playing drums in this album.

-Pallett produces beautiful string music as part of a group, Final Fantasy.

Those are the 4 people involved with the album. Apparently Pallett does the strings on Arcade Fire too!

Thoughts?

There's the article from NME!

I'm really looking forward to this, should be excellent. ^_^ Also notice about new Arctic Monkeys material too! Seems they're in the basis of creating a 3rd album now, and they've got some demos recorded. Seems the album should be out late this year/early next year. ^_^

Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner has decided to make a documentary about his collaboration with The Rascals' Miles Kane.

The musicians announced that they were teaming up to produce an album together in August last year. It is expected to be released in March.

Turner and Kane have hired a documentary film-making team to capture the story of the project, which also features contributions from producer James Ford.

"The lads are really excited about their collaboration and thought it would be a wicked idea to chronicle it all," a source told the Daily Star.

The insider added: "Fans will love it as they'll really get an insight into the heart of the creative process. They'll also get to see the real Alex Turner and Miles Kane. There'll be a lot of laughs because they're both funny, down-to-earth blokes."
