Posted August 4, 200717 yr Variety this week has a front page article saying 'H'w'd rethinks its scare flair' in that the recent torture porn/gorno phase in cinema might be over, with upcoming pics being less blood-splattered with a PG-13 rating rather than a R, and genre pic labels making more teen comedies, urban actioners and p13 thrillers rather than loads of horror.. so is this a good thing? or do you want even more gore at the pics?
August 4, 200717 yr What I would actually want are PROPER Horror films.. Not this "torture porn" c**p or this bloody PG-13 "kiddie horror" guff either.... I want Horror films to be like they were, actually SCARY and not merely sicko, exploitative pieces of junk, and definitely not "funny" or "post-modern" either.... "1408" is probably the most recent film that I've seen that actually comes closest to going 'back to basics'.... I seriously doubt that there's been another genre more debased and more dumbed-down than Horror.... I dont think people even know what a true Horror film is anymore....
August 4, 200717 yr Author "1408" is probably the most recent film that I've seen that actually comes closest to going 'back to basics'.... 1408 - from the trailer it looks a bit dodgy, like its gonna be another avarage pic but i've only seen good things about that film in the press and anyway Cusack normally picks good choices in film roles doesnt he. (was gonna say that about sam lj but obv got SoaP to watch later )

(was gonna say that about sam lj but obv got SoaP to watch later ) 1408 aint perfect, but when you consider most of the sh!te that's passing itself off as "horror" these days, it seems like a classic... and it does have some genuinely un-nerving moments, just dont try to compare it to "The Shining" or "Dead Zone".. I think the best bit is where Cusack and Samuel L Jackson play off one another, shame it's only the one scene that has this.. The ending's a little strange as well...
August 4, 200717 yr Peter Cushing, Vincent Price were great horror actors, nothing beats the classics horror wise, they were the masters and original.
August 6, 200717 yr Peter Cushing, Vincent Price were great horror actors, nothing beats the classics horror wise, they were the masters and original. Amen to that Mikey... Cushing. Price and Christopher Lee were absolutely marvellous, and they took it all incredibly seriously, no matter how daft some of the films might have ended up being (and a few of the later Hammer films are incredibly silly.....), but when you look at stuff like the original Hammer Draculas and Frankensteins, there really is something about them...
