Posted August 4, 200717 yr I do ^_^ Simply because Jamelia isn't hugely in public favour right now, she needs to remind them why they love her (Superstar, Thankyou) and launch a Hits package with a hot new song. She has 13 singles which is easily enough and she could add two new songs, and tour if it were a success :D And it would also enable Jamelia to get releasing again sooner.
August 4, 200717 yr No. The only time I think an artist should put out a GH package is when they're taken off their robe, decided enough is enough and finished with making music. She should just concentrate on writing & recording album #4, come back hard with some hot & fresh material and shut all these other female acts down!
August 4, 200717 yr Author But BOTD was hot and fresh and she just scraped Top 10 :P WITH lots of promo as well.
August 4, 200717 yr The problem with that was the timing of its release. If she released it in the summer, it would have more than likely achieved much more success than it did being released in December.
August 4, 200717 yr Author Hmm..Fair enough then :D I'm interested to see if anyone else is, like me, in favour of a GH.

August 4, 200717 yr Author Bullsh!t. There were serious promotion issues with No More, and BOTD was released at a bad time, the Christmas market being very competetive - and on top of that on an occassin or two there were tuning issues. SAY did well so she's obviously still liked ^_^

SAY did well so she's obviously still liked ^_^ No More was just a weak single. I know the Christmas market is competitive, popular artists do well, Jamelia scraped top 10 so the increased sales at Christmas time should have allowed her to get higher, if she was still popular of course ;) Oh, and SAY didn't really do that great as a lead single. It got to #9?
August 4, 200717 yr Yes, got to 9 but it sold 70k. (Sold more than Catch You) ;) I knew you was going to bring Sophie into it. I don't know much about single sales, but that's not really that much for a lead single is it? How did her album do?
August 4, 200717 yr Author  How did you know I'd mention Sophie? 70k is alright but perhaps underwhelming for a lead single. In contrast Babies by Natasha B also sold 70k, whereas Umbrella by Rihanna has sold 400k :P Walk With Me sold Gold, 100k, despite reaching only #21.
August 4, 200717 yr I think that's just an excuse really. She is just, unfortunatley, not that popular anymore :( I disagree with you. "Beware Of The Dog" was the song that music critics boasted about when reviewing her album & even when reviewing music releases last year, calling it "this year's biggest single" amongst other things. It couldn't get enough praise. The whole timing of Jamelia's comeback was wrong and to top that off, they released the wrong comeback single. "Something About You" didn't do too bad, because it may have peaked at #9, but it hang around the top 30 for seven weeks and did quite well in other countries, in which Jamelia didn't even have to step foot in and do an ounce of promotion for the single, so I don't think popularity was an issue. As it was, the "team" behind Jamelia really weren't supportive enough for her & this project.

I knew you'd bring Sophie into it because you know I like her and her and Jamelia are sort of in the same position (or have been) That info about the album just confirms what I thought, it really is nothing in comparison to Thank You. She didn't even make top 20 :( Edited August 4, 200717 yr by Kieran
August 4, 200717 yr That info about the album just confirms what I thought, it really is nothing in comparison to Thank You. She didn't even make top 20 :( That's because it didn't receive any promotion. The only time it did was when J talked about it in interviews ...

Critical acclaim however, does not always transcend into public popularity.

I agree with that part, but I really don't think it was because she was unpopular. I just think they made a bad choice in releasing the song at Christmas.
August 4, 200717 yr Author It does not but fact is it's not like this was some avarage song - it just sounded wrong pumping out of stereos in the cold winter, it should've been released more Spring time or Summer as the comeback single. And really Gold is far from poor! It's just only 20% of what she sold with Thank You.
August 4, 200717 yr She didn't do that badly at all ... it's just when you compare it with her 'Thank You' album, it looks really c**p. She had a lot more support with that project than she did with 'Walk With Me' though, so ...
August 4, 200717 yr The album reached #20 didn't it  As for a GH i agree with Martin they should only be released once an artist has finished with releasing music
