Yep, it's actually pretty evil mate... If a Proprietor owned a stake in a company that was polluting a river, and a journalist from that paper found out about it, the story would simply NOT APPEAR in that paper, or any of the sister papers, and if said journalist did not "tow the line" they'd likely be sacked and/or blacklisted... Similarly, if a Proprietor gave money to an MP or Senator's campaign fund, they would not allow any negative stories to be printed about that candidate, and even if a rival paper did print such a story about a candidate, then they would try to put a positive spin on whatever scandal they were involved in, or else print a negative story about whichever candidate the rival was supporting.... It's all very dirty, and it's almost all completely about making a buck no matter what the consequences..... The Tabloid press goes on about "morality" and then you turn to the advertising pages and you see ads for Sex Chatlines.... <_< Because it makes money....

I don't believe it's not a problem but I do believe it isn't something that can be blamed on 'popstars dance routines performing on TV' etc. When was the last time you saw someone perform on Popworld, or GMTV or the Lottery with a raunchy dance routine? It just doesn't happen. The only place they are going to see raunchy music vids too is late night music channel, so again it all boils down to the parents! If they aren't going to be so clever as to put a basic protection service onto the internet, or to stop their kids watching videos on the music channel after a reasonable hour, they have only themselves to blame for their young teen girls being 'slutty'. On top of all this, I'd like to know how these girls who supposedly trample around in a miniskirt and other revealing clothes actually get hold of the garments? Only I'd imagine if the parents let them go shopping alone with their friends at aged 13, which yet again goes back to the parents for not taking charge over what their children do.

not blamed solely on popstars, but raunchy vids ARE freely available for viewing on mtv channels. i also think that theres an age thing here between us m8, youve grown up in a world where raunchy pop vids are the norm, many of these vids just wouldnt be allowed on tv 20 odd years ago.

its all part of the problem.

Even then, Frankie's "Relax" video (which was one of the more notorious ones..) just looks like a bit of harmless pantomime.... And the Madonna "Like A Prayer" vid wasn't even banned for sex reasons as such, it was banned by Right Wing arseholes in America because - oh my fukkin' GOD - it actually portrayed Jesus AS A BLACK MAN!!!!!!! <_< <_<

The ironic thing about it all was that it wasn't actually Jesus, apparently it was Saint Martin de Porres who actually WAS black!

i dont think 'relax' or 'like a prayer' though appealed to preteen girls. unlike many pop idols today from rachel stevens to beyonce, let alone 99% of dance vids all of which employ sexual moves and appeal to kids.

It's only really dance videos which are as raunchy as is being suggested  With arse cheeks hanging out and multiple women rolling around in mud and the like

Totally agree.

Another example: This video was BANNED by MTV throughout the world back in 1992 (just 15 years ago) and killed this artists pop career because it was deemed too raunchy at the time (about 6 months before Madonna - Erotica video). Yet it is utterly tame compared to some of the videos made by current pop princesses Britney, Xtina, Jessica, P!nk that are on heavy rotation on Music Channels today.....

Debbie Gibson - Losing Myself

britney, xtina, ???? c'mon m8, porn isnt only seen on mtv dance, its chart stars that produce soft porn vids! the likes of britney and xtina in particular appeal to kids. rachel stevens 'sweet dreams my la ex' , various r n b vids and lyrics... porn is rife in pop and pop appeals to kids.

Videos like Sweet Dreams aren't porn! They're sexy and there's nothing wrong with that! If parents don't want their kids to follow the examples of the more extreme videos like the dance vids then just don't let them watch the music channels!

THAT IS THE PROBLEM!!!!......

you dont see it as porn, and accept that its perfectly ok for a pop star to cavort in her underwear on tv to sell records aimed at kids!

kids DO emulate what the likes of britney, xtina, stevens and all other pop females do on tv. kids are being sexualised, encourgaed to act like their idols, at a much younger age then is acceptable.

vids like 'sweet dreams' would never have been allowed until recently, there clearly IS a link between the images the media portrays and the rise in underage sex and all that goes with it (sdt's abortions, etc).

I still think though that you are exaggerating to some extent the effect these videos have on people

Drug taking and binge drinking is also massively on the rise in this country too among under 16's and that can't be attributed to Rachel Stevens or Xtina or Britney or anything like that I think the sex element is just a by product of a changing society and the ever increasing chav culture and going hand in hand with the heavy drinking and drug taking among under 16's although of course not everyone who gets drunk at night and shags anything that moves is a chav but certainly the majority are

..And then they'll just to to an Internet Cafe and watch the videos on You Tube mate... How are parents meant to stop that...? They cant possibly watch their kids 24/7, they have to go to work at some point in order to earn money to buy food, pay bills, etc... Sorry, but Pop Stars making these sorts of vids and portraying these sorts of images ARE part of the problem... Just compare the teenage pregnancy and abortion stats 20 years ago to nowadays - the difference is pretty staggering... In the 80s you had very strong "Safe Sex" messages, and a lot of 80s Pop Stars (such as Madonna) promoted safe sex to combat HIV/AIDS...

It can, however, in a way, be attributed to the likes of Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton. People look at how Celebs such as them go around binge drinking and driving under the influence of god knows what practically 24/7 without there seeming to be any consequences to their actions... Paris gets three weeks in a Holiday Camp "prison"??? LiLo goes off to some celeb "rehab" Butlins??? Hardly a punishment....

As I said above though Scott I don't think that that is the sole reason

I don't think seeing a video of Dirrty will turn a 14 year old girl into a rampant sex machine any more than her watching Reservoir Dogs will turn her into slicing people's ears off with a knife, the sex element and the unsafe sex and so on is IMHO related to excessive drinking and also drug taking as opposed to pop videos, the drinking culture is a far bigger cause of unprotected sex, 14 and 15 year olds drinking themselves into oblivion is far more likely to be the cause than a video of Sweet Dreams My LA Ex

Apart from a moronic brain dead few I don't really think though that Paris Hilton is widely regarded as a role model certainly not enough to influence modern society to this extent

Paris Hilton has failed at everything she has done, failed actress, failed recording artist, I think she is far more a figure of fun and ridicule in modern society than a role model and I would guess that the majority of those that watched her porn video were 20+ male office workers etc

Kids aint bombarded with images of Mr Blonde slicing the cop's ear off though mate (not that you even see that happen in the film anyway, it's done off-camera, but I digress..), whereas they ARE bombarded with sub-pornographic images from sleazy pop videos on a daily basis practically... If a kid is bombarded with those sorts of images on a regular basis, then they will start to think that it's acceptable to emulate this sort of behaviour... Couple this with a lack of parental control, poor education and binge drinking, and, well, I think we all see what the results are.... But to deny that the Media, 'Celeb Culture' and the Internet is a significant part of the problem is incredibly foolish....

I completely agree with you! In most cases the argument is as silly as those 'He saw a murder on a movie and went out and killed someone, so its the movie's fault'-type arguments. Realistically no child is going to watch Dirrty or the like and think 'I want those clothes!' More likely really if they're only 12 is that they'd be embarassed to watch a raunchy vid in the same room as their parents, and flick over!

who mentioned 14 year olds?

im on about preteens, little girls that are being shown via pop vids AMONGST OTHER FACTORS that are sexualising them at an early age. sure no one watching 'dirrty' will go out and do it, but it softens them up, preparing the ground, lowering the boundaries. i know, ive seen junior school kids performing dance routines which involves moves of a sexual nature. they should be playing hop-scotch, skipping, rounders, not practising dance routines to emulate adult females performing in a 'sexy' way.

theres always been drinking, we did it but we didnt automatically go shagging! neither would todays children if they werent already 'primed' to behave in that way.

To assume that today's children do drink and then 'go out shagging' is stupid. Me and my friends dont.
