Posted August 10, 200717 yr I am so fed up with there being no Darius news or sightings that I thought I would post this, as it has really cheered me up!! :cheer: An article in the Daily Star today: X Factor All Fun and No Talent...... Pete Waterman says The X Factor is 'more about foolery and drama than music'. The hitmaker claims the talent well has run dry and the stars being created are just fly-by-nights. The former Pop Idol judge said, "I did Pop Idol because it was the first show of its kind. We were all passionate about music and about finding a star. I don't feel this is the case for The X Factor, which is why I'd never be a judge on it. The show seems to be more about foolery and drama. I think having programmes like this year after year means that the well of talent has pretty much run dry by now. THEY'RE KIDDING THEMSELVES IF THEY THINK THEY WILL FIND 10 MORE WILL YOUNGS OR 10 MORE DARIUS DANESHES IN MANCHESTER" He said the new batch of singers had no staying power......... AT LONG LAST DARIUS IS BEING MENTIONED AS A SUCCESS ALONGSIDE WILL!!! Well done Pete - let's get the ball rolling...... :yahoo: Julie
August 11, 200717 yr Thanks Julia. Good to read that. I too am getting fed up that D is not getting any mentions and I have to wonder why. Unfortunately the Star is not a widely read tab. I find it very odd that he has been in london for quite a while recently yet no sightings reported.
August 11, 200717 yr NOW magazine have also picked up that article from the daily star and printed it.
August 11, 200717 yr that is good to read, I am remembering about Pete and Darius in Sink or Swim, I think Pete had a lot of time for Darius but I am glad Darius turned his offfer down along with Simons!! although isnt Rick Astley still with Pete and being used as a songwriter. that shows a commitment somewhere. August 11, 200717 yr Pop veteran says it's not about the music Pete Waterman has slammed The X Factor, saying it's 'more about foolery and drama than music'. The former Pop Idol judge says the talent pool has well and truly dried up - and the passion's all but gone. 'I did Pop Idol because it was the first show of its kind,' he tells the Daily Star. 'We were all passionate about music and about finding a star. 'I don't feel this is the case for The X Factor, which is why I'd never be a judge on it. The show seems to be more about foolery and drama. 'The talent well has run dry - they're kidding themselves if they think they will find 10 more Will Youngs or Darius Daneshes in Manchester.' this is the article in NOW, I copy and pasted it
August 12, 200717 yr I actually loved most of the last 0 and the last 5 were fantastic. That was a brilliant series.
August 12, 200717 yr Just dawned on me you missed the '1' out...you loved most of the last 10 Yes I'm with you there...shame Korban went out so early.
August 12, 200717 yr Author Any pics? I love it when anyone realises how good he is. No, sorry Meg, picture of Will but not Darius!! :( One step at a time!! :D Julie
August 15, 200717 yr I don't believe the talent well has run dry but I think the X Factor in particular is more about the judges rowing, PR and placing stories in papers to bump up the viewing figures than about anything that actually happens during the live shows. Because that is what is more important, the emphasis is on characters and stories not on who the most talented are in each of the sections and good people don't even make it through to bootcamp. They don't seem to be genuinely looking for a charismatic and individual performer/group, like they certainly seemed to be trying to do on PI despite using karaoke as a rather dubious means of trying to find a genuine new star. The winners of X Factor have been hyped as the new so and so - Steve was Luther Vandross, Shane - Justin Timberlake and Leona - Whitney Houston.
August 15, 200717 yr I agree. They are not really looking for talent just money. They aren't interested in nurturing a genuine star just sell one record and maybe one album and then move on to the next year's competition and the next money spinner. The previous winner is pushed aside.
August 15, 200717 yr But then because they're from a reality series they are expected to repeat those impossible sales figures and when the next single sells something more in line with regular top three singles and should be seen as another major hit, they are instead written off as losers and that angle is flashed around the world in hours and their management are nowhere to be seen or heard in their support.
August 16, 200717 yr I don't think their management ot label cares. They are seen as disposable. They have to hold on through all the sniping to stand a chance of coming out the other end
August 16, 200717 yr On PI Pete said before they really got going with the judging, he was probably looking for something different from the other judges - his concern was the voice. He loved Rosie's voice at her very first audition. He was complimentary to Darius too but I think the moment he really fell for Darius's voice was when he got the final ten into the studio. It's a shame that Pete was caught in the crossfire between Darius and Simon Cowell after PI. As a producer he had approached working with Darius as he did with most artists - in good faith, he found a song which he thought was a perfect match for the voice and the artist. Darius even admitted it was a wonderful song - but he was rebuffed. That must have hurt and it's not surprising that he later made very bitter remarks about Darius wanting to write his own music. Perhaps the quick reference here is a sign of the ice melting. I don't know if any thaw could ever lead to them working together in the future, but it might be interesting if they did.
August 16, 200717 yr He always had a soft spot for Darius, he didn't pre-judge him. I have to disagree with him about Rosie...she might have sung the odd song well but I couldn't do with her....she should have gone and Korban stayed.
