Fergie again has the No.1 single in Australia for a fifth week with "Big Girl's Don't Cry". And this week is eighteenth week that a female has laid claim to the No.1 spot in the country, a first for this decade. Last year from April 24th through until August 14th, only two songs stayed at No.1, being Rihanna's "SOS" (8 weeks) and Shakira's "Hip's Don't Lie" (9 weeks), giving them 17 weeks at the top combined. Well last week that record was tied, and now it has been beaten, as this year's female domination started back one week earlier this (April 16th) when Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend" climbed to the No.1 spot, then the next week Missy Higgins' "Steer" debuted at No.1, then the following week, Avril's single went back to No.1 for a further 5 weeks. One of last year's female long-runner's Rihanna came back to the top for six weeks with "Umbrella", and now Fergie has been at the top for the past five weeks, giving the grand total of 18 weeks. You go girls! By the way, the last longest run at the top for female's was 21 weeks set back in 1999 with Cher, Britney Spears and TLC keeping the female demographic up.

Right behind the No.1 spot at No.2 (funnily enough), is the first of six new entries this week, four of which are local talent. The first of the local's is former Australian Idol performer, Ricki-Lee, who lands her highest placed single ever by debuting at No.2 with her fourth single "Can't Touch it". Previously she has hit the charts with "Hell No" (No.5, June 2005), "Sunshine" (No.8, October 2005) and her only non-top-er "Breathe" (No.14, January 2006). Her new album "Brand New Day" is out today.

Another female Australian performer debuts at the other end of the Top 10, Missy Higgins is in at No.10 with "Where I Stood", the second single off her former No.1 album "On a Clear Night" (up from 17 to 12 this week). This is Missy's 7th Top 50 appearance, and it's the follow-up to the No.1 single "Steer" (April 23rd, 1 week).

Aussie act number three is Ben Lee, who debuts at No.25 with "Love Me Like the World is Ending". Ben's last big single was the 2005 ARIA award winning, "Catch My Disease" which peaked at No.27, and was then his highest placed track to date, it also spent 22 weeks within the Top 50. His new album "Ripe" is due to be released September 18th.

The final of four local performer's is also another group who chart higher than they have before, The Waifs, who's lead and title single from their September 1st new album "Sun, Dirt, Water" debuts at No.32 this week. Their last appearance on the charts was the No.50 single "Bridal Train" back in April 2004.

Right behind The Waifs is Calvin Harris at No.33 with "The Girls", his first Top 50 single in Australia, but his second charting, as "Acceptable in the 80's" hit the Top 60 back in May. This former UK Top 5 single for the Scottish born producer and remixer is taken from his current album "I Created Disco".

When something get's played on Grey's Anatomy it seemed to get noticed by a lot of people, (take Snow Patrol for instance), well the sixth new entry this week is by Seattle-based Brandi Carlile, who's song "The Story" debuts at No.44.

Fergie reign's supreme on the top of both charts for a third week, as "The Dutchess" keeps it's No.1 position, now making it the longest running No.1 by a female since January 2005 when Missy Higgins' "The Sound of White" was setting a four week run at No.1.

The highest new entry on the album charts comes from Paul Potts, in at No.5 with "One Chance", which has been at No.1 in the UK for the past three weeks. Paul was the winner of "Britain's Got Talent", which has now transcended to our local charts.

After 33 weeks on the charts, local dance act Sneaky Sound System find their self-titled debut album finally reaching the Top 10 this week as it climbs from No.15 to No.9.
