Posted August 14, 200717 yr Brighton-based duo Chungking look set to satisfy the disgruntled Goldfrapp fans by offering gorgeous, filmic songs to our jaded ears. Their music will be familiar to some as it's been used on quite a few TV programmes and a few ads (Nip/Tuck seems fond of them). Here's Making Music, one of their earlier singles and worth checking is the drop-dead beautiful 'Voodoo' (but not the Hot Chip mix on the MySpace page which does the song no justice at all). The lead singer is influenced by Grace Jones and The Pretenders, the other guy is influenced by tacky 70s compilation albums. Together they make pretty perfect pop - I think some of you will like them.... www.myspace.com/chungking20
August 15, 200717 yr Hmm, they sound pretty super cool actually.. The lead singer sounds a LOT like Siouxsie actually, the way she inflects her words and the style of singing.... ;)
August 15, 200717 yr Author I'm hooked! And yes, you're spot on, Scott - there is an element of Siouxsie there. Isn't it a shame that whenever a new act that's unlikely to get championed by the Radio One dullards and get into the top 40 is mentioned here - they are simply ignored on this site? Edited August 15, 200717 yr by russt68
August 15, 200717 yr I've known about them for a while :D They deserve more of a push from their label "Love is Here to Stay" be my favourite off the album :D
August 15, 200717 yr Author this is, I think, their second album..... maybe it'll be another Godfrapp scenario, where it takes oodles of TV ads using the music for Joe Public to catch on. It reminds me of that perfect pop French stuff - kind of St Etienne - with balls.

Isn't it a shame that whenever a new act that's unlikely to get championed by the Radio One dullards and get into the top 40 is mentioned here - they are simply ignored on this site? Exactly, it's a really pathetic, lame attitude that the press and radio have.. This is Perfect Pop music in every sense, but it seems that unless it's manufactured tripe, dull, generic, identikit "indie" toss or lame-ass "emo" c**p, then they dont want to know...
August 16, 200717 yr Author it's not just radio and press, Scott - I was referring to the sheep-kids on this site ;)
August 17, 200717 yr it's not just radio and press, Scott - I was referring to the sheep-kids on this site ;) Well, yeah, I can see what you mean mate, but at the end of the day, they're just being manipulated by the press in many ways... Sure, you could criticise them for not "thinking outside the box" like you and me can, but we should be focussing a bit more on the facts that we actually used to have a damn GOOD music press in this country which has completely gone the way of just promoting whatever sh!te is being pushed by the record companies.... I just occasionally glance through the likes of NME these days and think to myself "what the fukk happened to you guys..?"
August 17, 200717 yr Author NME appears to have been taken over by spotty teens with ironic haircuts these days..... it's devoid of a) any bands of interest and b ) - any bands I've ever heard of Edited August 17, 200717 yr by russt68
