Results of Retro Soundclash #27

David Bowie - Life on Mars? [ 6 ] [46.15%]

Kate Bush - Running Up That Hill [ 7 ] [53.85%]

Life on Mars? has been sent packing to Coventry by Ms Bush's wonder from 1985. Ooh it doesn't seem like 22 years since I remember watching her do her thing on Wogan!

Up next is my favourite Soft Cell song. I could have chosen one of the other singles like Torch or What but I just love this. Of course I expect it to suffer in comparison with Kate but you never know!

You have until whenever I get round to announcing the results to vote!

The Champion - Kate Bush

The Challenger - Soft Cell

both are incredible pop songs - but it's Kate for me. If it'd have neem Down in the Subway or Soul Inside, I'd have gone for Marc'n'Dave - but SHWG has been tainted by its association with David Gray these days for me :(

Much as I loved Northern Soul I think Soft Cell made a hash of it. 3 of there singles we covers of Wigan Casino classics.

A piece of trivia. Soft Cell's #1 Tainted Love was originally recorded (and was a northern soul smash) by Gloria Jones.

Gloria Jones was the girlfriend of the late Marc Bolan who died 30 years ago. She was driving the car in which he was killed.

Kate Bush is incredible. Such a unique sound and so gorgeous

 what were the other 2? I know Tainted Love was a cover - but I thought What!, Say Hello, Soul Inside etc... all theirs? I thought only Down in the Subway was a cover?

What? and Down in the Subway were also covers although what this has got to do with Say Hello Wave Goodbye I don't know.

And as for David f***wit Gray - just forget about that dullard's desecration of a fabulous song!

Difficult choice, but i went for Kate Bush.

What was a cover of the Judy Cheeks original What Can I Say - another biggie at wigan casino

Torch was not actually a cover but Soft Cell tried to make it sound like a northern soul classic but it was dedicated to the famous northern soul venue The Torch in Stoke-On-Trent.

Never really liked Soft Cell from the start, so, this was a no-brainer, I voted Kate Bush...
Kate Bush obviously, easily one of the most underrated songs I can think of.
