Covering 40 years of Radio hits

The Sun

RADIO 1 is preparing to celebrate 40 years at the top with an amazing anniversary treat.

I can exclusively reveal the cream of UK talent, plus a couple of adopted Brits, have been rounded up to record a hit from each year the music station has been going.

Radio 1 has been a pioneer for pop music since it launched in 1967.

Way back in the day, before CHRIS MOYLES, ZANE LOWE or in fact any of the artists were born, the station was pushing back the boundaries of popular music.

And now artists from the top of the charts have been invited to pick a song they would like to perform.

KAISER CHIEFS kick off the album with their cover of the first track ever played on Radio 1 — Flowers In The Rain by THE MOVE.

Troubled AMY WINEHOUSE chose Cupid by JOHNNY NASH, which is ironic considering how dangerously infatuated she is with Blake Fielder-Civil. One track I can’t wait to hear is THE GOSSIP’s version of GEORGE MICHAEL’s Careless Whisper.

It is great to see KYLIE back with her first recorded track since recovering from cancer.

The jilted singer recorded Love Is A Drug by ROXY MUSIC, which could be a nod to her relationship with OLIVIER MARTINEZ.

JO WHILEY’s Live Lounge show has been a pioneer in getting bands to perform cover tracks outside of their comfort zone. But the tracks on this double-sided CD, out on October 1, are all brand new recordings.

Other songs include a KASABIAN cover of THE SPECIALS’ Too Much Too Young, LILY ALLEN singing Don’t Get Me Wrong by The Pretenders and GIRLS ALOUD covering the rocky Teenage Dirtbag.

Youngsters THE VIEW are covering their pals THE LIBERTINES’ Don’t Look Back Into The Sun.

Here’s a list of the 40 tracks in full.

1967 – Flowers In The Rain (The Move) by Kaiser Chiefs

OMG, I LOVE the Kinks, and Lola is one of my favourite songs, such a classic. I cannot wait to hear Rob's version. Even when he is taking a break he still manages to give us things to look forward to music wise with these covers. :w00t:

Lola, performanced in 1970. Robbie is going to do such a great version of this.

Although saying that I would've perfered him to do 'You really got me now', which is just amazing. Or Sunday Afternoon

And apperently Guy Chambers has been involved. I take it he must've produced or co-produced it with Rob :w00t:

Radio 1's new covers' album

Check the full track listing from the upcoming Radio 1 release.

Mika and Amy Winehouse are just two of the 40 acts that are recording cover versions to celebrate Radio 1's 40th birthday.

The idea is each band had to pick a hit from the past 40 years.

For example, Robbie Williams got 1970 and has recorded Lola by the Kinks. He did that with Guy Chambers.

I am very pleased with these covers he's done this year, first on the Mark Ronson album,, then Dean Martin and now this. It is keeping me very happy, because I do not want him to release an album this year. These covers will more than do till next year or whenever he releases a new album. :D

Th Mark Ronson one is BRILL, the swing one is so and so.

Looking forward to this.

not yet another cover

How is it a bad thing? It's not like he is releasing it on one of his own albums and he won't be releasing an album till next year, so surely anything is better than nothing?

Because it says so in the article I posted from Radio 1 :P

I can only presume this is the track Gary Nuttell was refering to, because he said he was with Guy working on a song for Rob. They must've been doing the instuments, and production etc. Whilst, if it was an original song, Rob would've been involved no doubt.
