that's a striking cover image, I think - very Cabaret. Apparently, she wanted the image to represent an old-style musical 'turn' - "is not meant to be a daily representation of my image...it is The Turn and all the connotations that evokes. Along with the affectionate nick name that it is for me among fans it has a world weariness, cynicism..it is not a fresh thing and not particularly beautiful. It wears a mask"

the samples sound brilliant. Britain's best female voice - a great return.

the MySpace link now carries an extra 3 songs from the new album - and they all sound excellent.

It's ironic that 2 80s divas are releasing their comeback albums at the same time - Alison and La Lennox.... whereas Annie's sounds bland, uninspired, MOR and lazy, the Moyet album sounds fresh, rejuvinated, risky and interesting.

I know which one I'll be buying, anyway ;)

I've just gone to the MySpace page & listened to the tracks and they sound really good.

Seriously, she is probably the 3rd greatest UK female vocalist ever (as opposed to artist) IMHO behind the late Dusty Springfirld & late Sandy Denny.

Who would have thought back in the mid 1980s when "Alf" released her first two very commercial & rather bland solo albums after Yazoo split up that she'd now be making such interesting music, even more ironic when another 1980s Diva has gone in totally the opposite direction.

I agree, thisispop. Whilst Moyet is often named one of Britain's best ever voices (apart from in Q - she, bizarrely, didn't feature in their top 100  ), she's often overlooked as a songwriter. Lyrically, she's up there with the greats in my eyes. Her single This House has to be one of the best lyrics ever written.

I loved her 2002 album Hometime, and this one seems on par with that one.

The tracks featured on her MySpace site will get updated again tonight (Sunday), so you'll be able to hear snippets of some more of the tracks.
