Some members might remember the 1957 original starring Glenn Ford, its been given a fresh lick of paint for 2007 with Russell Crowe and Christian Bale in the lead, it seems a Western movie is hitting the screen this year, and we don't get many western movies on the screen these days, actually this is not bad judging by the early trailers.

Brief Synopsis:

In Arizona in the late 1800's, infamous outlaw Ben Wade (Russell Crowe) and his vicious gang of thieves and murderers have plagued the Southern Railroad. When Wade is captured, Civil War veteran Dan Evans (Christian Bale), struggling to survive on his drought-plagued ranch, volunteers to deliver him alive to the "3:10 to Yuma", a train that will take the killer to trial. On the trail, Evans and Wade, each from very different worlds, begin to earn each other's respect. But with Wade's outfit on their trail - and dangers at every turn - the mission soon becomes a violent, impossible journey toward each man's destiny.

I do like the sound of this, a lot of good actors here, and it doesn't seem like one of your typical grotty remakes, seems like a bit of effort's gone into this one.. The original film's a classic.

 

My only concern - the original came in at a pacy, economical 90 minutes, I do have to wonder just why exactly the remake is considerably longer (almost two hours)... I just really hope there isn't a lot of totally unnecessary exposition put in merely to pad things out... Sometimes less is more after all....
