Mika and Amy Winehouse are just two of the 40 acts that are recording cover versions to celebrate Radio 1's 40th birthday.

The idea is each band had to pick a hit from the past 40 years.

For example, Robbie Williams got 1970 and has recorded Lola by the Kinks. He did that with Guy Chambers.

No, apparently these are songs exclusively recorded for the CD, never before performed by the featured artists

Hard-Fi have recently been telling NME.com that Britney will 'hate' their cover of Toxic, which can only be a good thing as the original song was shite anyway. Should be a good laugh.

Here's what HMV said when I spoke exclusively to them about it:

Mykul: So, why exactly have Radio One bothered then?

HMV:On 30 September 1967, the BBC launched a new popular music radio station to compete with the illegal pirate stations that had a monopoly on playing new music. Since that time Radio 1 has become a world famous name, championing new music of all genres and establishing itself as a home to both the popular and the innovative. To celebrate this 40th anniversary, Radio 1 have asked 40 of today's biggest acts to cover 40 tracks from each year of its history. This album is the result.

Mykul: I see. So how is it looking?

HMV:Starting with probably the UK's biggest indie act, Kaiser Chiefs, covering the first track ever to be played on Radio 1, The Move's 'Flowers In The Rain', running all the way through to the modern jazz-folk-soul superstar Corrine Bailey-Rae's version of The Raconteurs' 2006 hit 'Steady As She Goes'.

Mykul: WOW. And whats your pitch gonna be? How do HMV intend to sell this album?

HMV: "Taking its cue from last year's successful 'Live Lounge', this album compiles exclusively recorded tracks of classic songs re-imagined by today's biggest stars."

Mykul: Nice one

Im deffo getting this. I liked the Live Lounge album, but I think this is shaping up to be even better tbh
