Posted August 23, 200719 yr But does anyone else find that their CD of Watermark plays rather quietly in comparison to some of the others, particularly A Day Without Rain, The Celts and Amarantine? Mine does, and I've listened to several copies and they are all the same! It's annoying when they're on my MP3 player and I'm going through randomly, I've turned it up to Orinoco Flow and then Only If comes bursting through my eardrums. :( Haha.
August 23, 200719 yr Hmmm, curious obsevation, one which I've not really noticed...too bad I don't have an MP3 pl.ayer, or a multi-disc cd player to try this out for myself.... <_< <_< ^_^
August 23, 200719 yr Author It's most annoying. :( Like yesterday I had Watermark and PTSWS in my CD player and I had the volume up quite loud for Watermark and then it went straight onto PTSWS and Orinoco Flow came absolutely booming out. :o
August 24, 200719 yr Yes, mine all play quietly. I was having a discussion about this last night and I'm thinking since they worked with a smaller studio back then, they probably didn't have the equipment to master/remaster the tracks so they come through at a higher volume..if that makes any sense. I'm going to play some other CD's to get a comparison tonight.
August 24, 200719 yr Author Ahh good so it isn't just me! It's pretty annoying tbh, they should release a remastered version of it. Actually, Watermark re-recorded would be IMMENSE.
August 24, 200719 yr I've noticed that too. If I'm listening to Enya on shuffle, I have to constantly adjust the volume for different tracks. It's most annoying. :(
August 24, 200719 yr Author Watermark is certainly the biggest offender too. And it has Cursum Perficio and Orinoco Flow on, which I like to be very loud. :(
August 25, 200719 yr Author Ooh next time we have a storm I think I'll give Cursum Perficio a blast. :D
August 25, 200719 yr I gave a few things a listen to compare sound last night. OT:TC and BOD: These two sounded like they were in the middle when I played them. PTSWS: Pretty loud..these are remastered, I would go with these versions when you can. Amarantine: LOUD and rich sound, I had to adjust volume. Watermark: Definitely the quietest out of what I tested, but I found if you have the right amount of bass boost on, it gives the volume a nice lift, not to mention it sounds great.
August 25, 200719 yr Author I think I'll do the same with all my albums tomorrow actually. I have a vague idea, but it'd be interesting to see if ours match.
August 26, 200719 yr I think they should remaster and rerelease Watermark. By the way, I tweaked the thread title a bit. ;)
August 26, 200719 yr Author My results. :magic: Enya 3/5 Watermark 1/5 Shepherd Moons 2/5 The Celts - 3/5 The Memory of Trees 3/5 Paint the Sky with Stars 5/5 A Day Without Rain 5/5 Amarantine 5/5 A definate pattern! Aside from Enya that is, but the quality is lower on that, despite the tracks themselves being louder.
August 28, 200719 yr I've noticed that that's the way it is with other artists too. The newer the CD, the louder it is. It must have to do with the quality that they are now able to put on CDs. Ooh next time we have a storm I think I'll give Cursum Perficio a blast. :D It's cool.
September 17, 200719 yr Author I'm still awaiting a storm. :( The weather hasn't been very hot though this year so we probably won't get m/any. :(
September 18, 200719 yr We had a small storm today. I also discovered there is a remastered version of Watermark out there. http://discography.enya.com/images/albums/01_02b.jpg They don't go for cheap prices, though. :o
